What's wrong with Destiny?

Not much at first, at least that's how I saw it but the more you play the more you realize that only a few players can really get everything out of the game. Which isn't that surprising, I mean I get it that not everyone gets every item but I did expect I could at least get my characters or even just one character on the highest level. Wrong!

You need friends?

Well life is more comfortable with friends but the problem is that your friends don't always like the same games as you, which means that sometimes you play games and you have no friends to play this game with. This isn't always a problem, but in Destiny it is a problem! Oh sure Bungie will tell you that the game is playable solo, but don't let that fool you because playable means not reaching the highest level and not being able to participate in the best parts of the game. With best parts I'm talking about raids, prison of elders and the trials of Osiris. The game won't put you in a team, no you have to form your own team and when you don't know anyone that can be difficult.

So Destiny isn't solo friendly?

That depends, if you're ok with being a lower level and just playing missions, bounties, the first arena of prison of elders (that gives you nothing to advance your character to a higher level) and some PvP matches then sure it's solo friendly. But the best weapons and gear are usually only dropping in raids, higher arenas in the prison of elders, trials of Osiris and nightfall strikes. All of these aren't solo friendly, you can try but it will be annoying and frustrating for average players. Which means that Bungie has created a game that is good for people with friends that also play Destiny and a lot of frustration for people that don't have any friends that play Destiny.

So why do you keep playing?

I've been asking myself that as well, at first it was the hope for something better. Finding better weapons and gear in a good loot drop (hardly ever happens), meeting friendly players that want to team up with you in the game (probably even more rare than good loot drops), hoping that the next expansion will be better and give solo players a chance to reach the highest level without having to form a team themselves (that will probably never happen) and praying that Bungie will put more matchmaking options in the games so people can choose if they want to team up with randoms or form their own team (I doubt that will ever happen). Mostly it's wishful thinking on my part, hoping that things will be better later but things aren't getting better because they're still bad for solo players. First you had the raids to keep you from reaching the highest level and best gear and now you have the prison of elder (level 32, 34 and 35) arenas and the trials of Osiris that keep solo players from reaching the highest level. The worst part is now seeing a lot of people who do have friends that help them get the good stuff and reaching the highest level, which feels like salt in your wounds and makes you hate the game and Bungie even more!

What needs to change?

First of all everyone should be able to reach the highest level and I'm not talking about forming teams, there should be matchmaking in all of the arenas in the prison of elders so everyone could get the best armor and then reach the highest level. I understand why the trials of Osiris are only for teams that you form yourself, but there should be a place in the game where people can easily form these teams. I don't want to go to a website where hundreds of people are asking for help and most of them don't get it because their message is lost in the ocean of other messages. The social area in Destiny seems like a good place to meet up but not many people are interested in talking and you often feel like you're talking in the desert because no one is listening. I think a type of bulletin board would be better in the social area, then people that are looking for a team can post their message there and say what they want. You can then select what you want, for example if you need help with the prison of elders and what level/class the other players should be. I'm not saying this will be a huge succes but at least people get a better chance for finding other people like them that want to team up without having to go to their computer and looking for help there. I'm certain that Destiny will keep a group of loyal fans but it wouldn't surprise me that people that are stuck like me (on level 32) are done with the game, because what else is there for you to do? Going online every day hoping you find a team that helps you out? No thanks, I think I'll play another game until Bungie makes some changes.
