Looking back at.....Alice the Madness Returns!

To be honest I didn't have high expectations when I bought this game, but when your girlfriend convinces you that this game is amazing then it's not a bad idea to listen. This game is the sequel of Amercian McGee's Alice, a game that got a dedicated group of fans that were probably very excited to see the sequel. But is this a good game and what makes this game so much fun?


I'm not crazy!


You start in the 'real' world, England about a century ago to be more exact, but quickly find yourself back in the madness of Wonderland. It's actually amazing to see how calm Alice stays under all that happens. I guess Alice isn't crazy, but the developers must be when I look at the crazy world and monsters that walk around in it. But it's beautiful in a disturbed way, if that makes sense to you. Your task is to stop a nightmare train from destroying Wonderland, unfortunately it takes a moment to get there but you can catch up with old friends and enemies.


Crazy but beautiful.


The worlds are pretty diverse and so are also the things you do, by spraying pepper in floating pig snouts to going crazy in Hysteria mode. Hysteria is the ultimate Alice attack where she can't be stopped and kills everything that stands in the way. You also have your trusted blade and some cool platforming jumps, something that is cool in the a 3D world that is absolutely beautiful! If that's enough you can also collect memories of Alice to figure out what happened in the past, but the more you learn the more you have to wonder if you really want to know...


Dark humour.


The humour is pretty dark in this game but that's probably what makes it so appealing to some people, this isn't some Nintendo game where it's all cuddles and rainbows but some brutal combat and twisted humour that probably not everyone will like. So if you like a game that is a bit different but still challenging enough to keep you going for quite some time then this is definitely a game for you!

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers? There is nothing wrong about being serious, but I think there is a time and a place for everything. When I play a game with my friends then I'm not being serious nor am I serious when I start up some random multiplayer match. Sure it's nice to win but it's not everything! Mortal Kombat X isn´t just another fighting game?

You´ve probably seen the announce trailer of Mortal Kombat X, then you probably also know that it shows two familiar characters fighting against eachother. At that point you´re probably still thinking that it´s just more of the same but with a better coat of paint, I understand that pessimist look and it´s not often wrong. But from what I´ve heard about Mortal Kombat X is that it´s going to be more than just a new game in the Mortal Kombat game series. What´s new? Apparently there will be more fighting styles for one character, giving everyone his or her own favourite style to use against opponents. There was something familiar in another Mortal Kombat game where they also had weapons in a fighting style, but this seems to go a bit deeper and more unique. Of course these are just words at this point, nothing has been proven just yet! But this would make it more fun to play against other people and see who masters the ultimate style, but I´m certain that there is a counter style f...
