To like or to dislike?
It´s a simple system, do you like/dislike a video or comment? But maybe it´s because it´s a simple system that so many simple minded assholes seem to be attracted to it. Because the whole like and dislike thing is something that seems to be broken or at least not working as it should. People get a lot of likes for whatever reason that might be and others swarm together to dislike something because that´s the trend or because they want to annoy others. Like and dislike don´t mean a thing anymore!
I already talked before about youtube having certain people on it that post a lot of messages on popular videos and get a lot of likes for that, this already proves how stupid the like/dislike system is. But then you also have people that dislike just for the fun of it, some try to annoy others while there are also people who think that their dislike has to be visible for everyone to see. It´s nice for them that they think their opinion is so important but it does add up another dislike that could´ve easily been kept out.
Why would you like or dislike a video? I don´t like a lot of videos, with a good reason because I don´t want my like list to be full of videos. I only like videos that are a lot of fun to watch and that I would like to see again some time in the future, which actually makes sense to me. I don´t like to like and I definately don´t like videos or comments because people ask me to! It´s the same with subscribing to a channel, some people say to sub for a sub but that only adds up more people you´re subscribed to and that doesn´t really help you find videos you really want to see. With dislikes it´s even easier, when I see a video I don´t like I stop watching it and just move on. I don´t need to mark it as a dislike, I find that actually a low blow because someone might actually have put a lot of work into that video and to dislike it so easily is just an insult. Which leads me to people that are looking for videos they know they´re not going to like, but they click on them so they can leave a dislike and sometimes also a negative comments hoping to annoy people. Once again the like/dislike system only adds annoyance and negativity to sites like youtube but also facebook, because just to mention the updates from facebook whenever you get a like or when a friend of you likes something is extremely annoying!
I think the like/dislike system is something for kids, when you can´t express yourself with more than four words then a like/dislike system has a function to give you an easy way of saying what you think. But I think that everyone of a certain age (to be positive I´d say teenagers) know how to voice out an opinion, which makes the like/dislike system unnecessary. Oh sure we can all be lazy and just leave as it is, but I think this just adds up annoyance and frustration that isn´t necessary. How about leaving out the tools to make it easier for trolls to do their thing and get people back into being more social, preferbly with some type of comment system that allows people to say more than three words. Of course you´ll still have people in that comment system that want to annoy others, but to be honest you could never truly get rid of those people. It´s best to ignore and just concentrate on what matters!
