One hit kill

Is there something that makes you more angry than being killed like that in a game? You´re this bad ass hero, soldier or whatever you might be and you get killed so easily which makes you feel like you´re a pathetic piece of crap. It´s nothing new in games, for example in old platform games you sometimes are so fragile that if you get hit once by an enemy or by something dangerous in the environment that it would already be deadly. It´s actually a miracle that this is still a thing today, because I doubt people like it that much and to keep something in a game eventhough it´s not appreciated can be dangerous if you want people to buy your game!


One hit kill is overpowered? If it´s an attack of a boss then I can understand that you feel that way, it sucks when a boss in a game has a move that can instantly kill you. But at the same time it also makes the boss fight very intense and more difficult for you to beat him or her. Of course this also makes a game more frustrating, which isn´t really a good thing. If something in the environment kills you with one hit, for example a spike trap or boulder that crushes you, then it makes more sense and eventhough that´s also frustrating at least you can go around that or wait for that to happen if it´s a timed event. But to be honest a boss usually also has a certain amount of moves and you can learn to recognize them and be one step ahead to evade them or counter them if possible.


You don´t need one hit kills in multiplayer? I guess some people feel that way, especially when they are constantly quick scoped by someone or if they´re being knifed (the chainsaw in Gears of War multiplayer is also pretty brutal). I can see how this frustrates people and wish that it wasn´t in multiplayer, but I doubt that it will ever leave multiplayer. Just look at the one hit kill punches in CoD AW multiplayer, I think a lot of people will try to ground pound (a fist attack from above) someone else. So instead of a knifer expect now a lot of pounders! These attacks will kill you with one hit and will cause a lot more people to rage quit. So it seems we´re not done with one hit kills just yet!


Why are one hit kills in games? I think it speeds up multiplayer, but at the same time it makes people more nervous because no one wants to die with just one hit. Especially in Assassin´s Creed multiplayer one mistake can cost you your life, some might not like this one hit kill way of playing but it works pretty good in those games! But also in Halo multiplayer you can sneak up on someone and assassinate him or her from behind, which makes you want to check your back several times. This creates a tension in multiplayer which makes it already more interesting to play. Of course you can also have game that go a bit extreme with this one hit kill move, in the fighting game Divekick you can defeat your oponent with just one hit! This is extreme but it makes the game more fun for people who suck at fighting games and makes people even more careful to make a move because it can be fatal! So why are one hit kills in games? I think it keeps things more interesting, it´s not just guns blazing or go crazy but actually means that you have to be mindful of your surroundings. Maybe not everyone is a fan of that but it slows the pace in certain moments in the game and helps you become a better player, at least I certainly hope so!
