It´s cool to be a monster (hunter)?
It´s a simple idea, four against one and the last one standing wins. At least that´s the idea, somehow this hasn´t gone so well in the past. Just look at Fable Legends, I like Fable games but I can´t say that the game motivates me to buy and play it. Why not make Fable 4? But what about Evolve? This is the same idea as Fable Legends except now the player that has to beat the four others is actually a creature on screen and not an invisible douchebag that just spawns more enemies on the map.
Four against one is fair? From what I saw things are looking balanced, because the four players only do a lot of damage when they work together and a strategic monster player knows when to strike and when to hold back. But the monster doesn´t regenerate health, otherwise every time the monster would retreat he or she could be back at full health and it would create a frustrating situation. But a monster can regain his or her armor, also by eating other creatures (NPCs on the map). So this should keep both sides on their toes!
What type of classes do you have as a hunter? One of the most important classes is the trapper, she can trap the monster in a dome shield and also use some type of rope canons to even immobilize the monster. Another important character is the sniper/healer, she can constantly revive other players while the others can only revive three times and then it´s over! The sniper/healer also has a tranquilizer that will slow the monster down, in combination with the trapper you can trap the monster. The sniper also has a sniper rifle for some additional damage. The assault class is the damage dealer, this guy will shoot the shit out of the monster and will be your best bet on making a crack in the armor of the monster. Then you also have the support class, he can make the team invisible for a moment to escape from the monster and/or to revive another character without being spotted. He can also place some artillery for some support fire.
And what type of monsters are there? So far only two types are known, Goliath and Kraken. Goliath is the tank type that is strong and probably beat hunters to death if they don´t move out of the way quick enough. I think Goliath is the typical monster for people that just want to smash, the type of Hulk idea of just beating the shit out of everything that´s in your way. The Kraken plays a bit differently, which means no charging in just like that or face the consequences! Because the Kraken can fly you can attack from above but you can also sneak around on the map, this gives you the chance to do stealth damage and surprise the hunters. Your monster can evolve if you eat enough creatures on the map, you can kill them yourself or you can let the hunters kill creatures and then you eat them. This will not make you regenerate but you will regain armor and become a stronger monster. Also if you evolve far enough you can go for an objective to also win the game, which is nice when you have trouble beating a team.
Does it look like fun? I think it can be fun, of course these type of games are usually more fun with friends but maybe even with strangers you can have a good time playing this game. The key is teamwork, because if you decide to go solo then you´ll be an easy target for the monster! I think Evolve does the four against one trick pretty good, so even if you´re not excited about this type of gameplay it can still be worth checking out!
