Why does every game need to have multiplayer?!!!
It seems that this is becoming a trend, more and more games that are made for single player get a multiplayer shoved in just appeal to more people. You can say a lot about that but I think it´s best said with just one word, it´s wrong!
Why do developers put multiplayer in a game that´s made for single player? I think an easy answer would be to make the game more attractive for different types of gamers. For example people that don´t like to play solo now have a reason to buy a game when there is also a multiplayer, but if people are really going to buy a game just for multiplayer remains to be seen. Of course Call of Duty games often attract people that only play multiplayer, but to be honest the single player can only keep you busy for a limited amount of time. But games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age are made for the single player experience and yet they have to shove a multiplayer in those games!
Do you really need multiplayer to give a game a longer life? That depends, because some games can get boring pretty quickly once you´ve finished them. But if you have different choices in a game that lead to different endings then you have a good reason to play the single player again. But also if you can customize your main character so you experience the game different even if you make the same choices, for example when you play as a Dwarf in Dragon Age then that gives you a slightly different take on the story. Well the main parts in the story remain the same but your origins story is different and interactions with some people are different, I´m quite certain that some people can see this as enough reason to try it out. So I don´t think you need multiplayer in a single player game when the single player offers enough fun and exploration that will keep you busy for quite some time!
Unfortunately this doesn´t keep developers from shoving multiplayer in single player games, just look at Mass Effect 3 and now also Dragon Age: Inquisition. What a shame that they put a multiplayer in Dragon Age: Inquisition, I mean it´s not the end of the world but I can only say why? Why do you need to put that in? Why couldn´t you just make it a magnificent single player adventure? At least the multiplayer is separated from the single player, because you play as different characters but I bet people that play multiplayer get a bonus or something extra in single player. I fucking hate that type of manipulation! Oh you want extra cool stuff? Well you have to play with strangers and see how long they´ll stay in the party and if it´s all going to be a waste of time! Really, what a good fucking idea!
