Assassin´s Creed Rogue, more of the same?
After seeing the trailers of naval combat and an assault on a hideout I noticed in the comments below that a lot of people aren´t happy with this game. Something that doesn´t really surprise me but it does kind of annoy me, because no matter what a developer does it seems like it´s always wrong. Some people say that it´s exactly like Assassin´s Creed IV Black Flag and I can see why they think that, but I do think that this game has its own unique part in the Assassin´s Creed universe!
What´s the difference between AC IV and AC Rogue? I think the biggest difference is that you play as a templar in AC Rogue, ok he´s a former assassin and the gameplay is also just like an assassin. But you do have some different weapons, both on land and on your ship. It also takes place further North, which creates different dangers and challenges. For example you now have to be careful for polar bears when you walk around on foot and with your ship you can break through ice. You also have new ways of attacking with improved frontal canons that can shoot the shit out of enemies and you have burning oil when an enemy ship is chasing you, this sets a part of the water on fire and does a lot of damage to a ship! But also on foot you have a gun that kind of gives me the impression you´re a hunter and your prey (assassins) will be difficult to catch. You have several ways of using your new gadgets and of course you have to be careful when facing an assassin because that assassin can launch an aerial attack on you or strike you down from cover.
But there are similarities between AC IV and AC Rogue, right? That´s true, but let´s not forget that AC IV took almost everything out of the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. So it´s difficult to top that, besides why change something that is good? You´re getting tired of naval combat? Guess what, Assassin´s Creed Unity doesn´t have that! The same counts for people that want better graphics, co-op story missions and a more diverse combat system. I hear a lot of ungrateful people talking shit about AC Rogue, but in truth Ubisoft gives us a game on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 for everyone that doesn´t have a new console (Xbox One and Playstation 4). It´s easy to say that they´re doing it for the money, but every developer is hoping to earn money with a game so they can make more games! I don´t blame them for making AC Rogue borrow certain things from AC IV, hell you even get to see Haytham Kenway again and that fits nicely with AC III and IV!
I think AC Rogue will be a game for the fans, if people can´t appreciate a game like AC Rogue then you really have to ask yourself if you´re a fan of Assassin´s Creed. Because this game gives you an interesting look on the war between the assassins and templar, especially because now you play on the side of the templars. This is something I wanted since the first game and I´m glad they finally did something with this! Will this game be something for everyone? I guess for everyone with the Xbox One and Playstation 4 it will be a step back, because AC Rogue is only available on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, but it´s still a game worth checking out from what I´ve seen!
