Looking back at.....the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess!
I was so happy when I first heard of this game, because finally you could play as Link who´s an adult and not a kid. Not that there is anything wrong with being a kid but I think mature players prefer Link as an adult, at least that´s how I see it. Anyway this game finally gave a lot of players what they want, Link as an adult and a more mature and dark story.
Light and dark are a theme in this game? You could say that, since most of the land in this game is covered in darkness and you have to liberate that and return it to the light. Yes that sounds a bit silly but that´s how it goes! Link is also affected by the darkness, it gives him the ability to transform into a wolf and he gets a short girl on his back, this girl (Midna) is your companion and kind of takes over the role of Navi in the Legend of Zelda: the Ocarina of Time. Except Midna is a lot more annoying, eventhough you do learn to appreciate her more further in the story. But you also meet familiar faces, for example princess Zelda.
So this game is more for adults? Yes, but that doesn´t make it forbidden for kids. I think it´s still a lot of fun for both adults and kids to play this game! Something I really like is that you can combat enemies from you horse, this keeps battles in Hyrule field dynamic and more interesting. Also it´s annoying that you have to get of your horse every time you encounter an enemy, so I´m glad you can now fight enemies while riding on your horse (Epona). But there is a darker theme in this game, not just because of the light and dark situation. I wouldn´t call that scary but it´s different from other Zelda games, eventhough the shadow temple in the Ocarina of Time was also pretty disturbing!
As much as I enjoyed playing this game it´s not my favourite Zelda game, it looks pretty and I had a lot of fun playing it but sometimes the classics are just the best! But that doesn´t mean that Twilight Princess is bad, far from it! It´s an interesting adventure that you´ll probably want to play if you´re into Zelda games and even when you´re new to Zelda games then this is a good game to get started. I really hope that they´ll make another game like this, at least with Link as an adult. That makes the fighting also a bit more intense, for example the long battle against a familiar foe at the end of this game was a long and enjoyable fight. So hopefully we´ll have more of this in the future!
