Looking back at.....the legend of Zelda: the Ocarina of Time!
This isn´t just my favourite Zelda game, this is probably one of my favourite games of all time! I was already familiar with the top down view Zelda games on the NES but those didn´t interest me that much. But the moment I saw the trailer on tv I was interested in this N64 game! The epic look of this game blew me away and I had to play it, so I think I scraped all my money together so I got to buy this game. Which was a good thing because I also got the special gold catridge version!
What´s so special about this game? I bet if you´ve never played this game or any other Zelda game that you don´t understand the love for this game, but I think if you give it a chance it might actually surprise you! The story that just sucks you in, eventhough your character doesn´t say a word you still feel like you´re on an epic quest that starts small but turns out to decide the fate of everything in Hyrule (the place where this game take place). The funny dialogue and action/adventure moments make this an unforgettable game. From the moment Link wakes up you have Navi with you, this little blue faerie will guide you and help you on your quest. Some hate this blue light but I actually like to have some company on my quest, also even in the deepest and darkest dungeon you have this blue light to give you some hope. I personally find the encounter with the spoiled Zora (aquatic creatures) princess very funny. But also the side missions are pretty cool and I really enjoy exploring the world and making new friends.
I guess I didn´t really answer my question. If I have to be honest and personal here with you then this game is for me a stepping stone, going from childhood to adulthood, and it was quite a special moment for me. In the game Link will mature into a young adult and has to coninue his quest, which really was something I didn´t expect and I still love in this game. The journey you make in this game kind of reminds me of growing up yourself, to become stronger and wiser with everything that happened in your life so far. Well maybe I´m being a bit too dramatic here but this is how think about it!
When Majora´s Mask came out I was a bit disappointed, not that it´s a bad game but you´re a child again and eventhough that´s not a bad thing I really missed being the adult version of Link. I´m glad that they brought him back in Twilight Princess because that was a pretty good game! But the journey you make in the Ocarina of Time is something I´ll never forget, which will stay with me for a long time and that helped me grow as a person. I don´t know if you have a game like that or maybe it was similiar for you as well. I love that games can have this effect on you, to make you feel and even give you something to think about. Sometimes the right game comes at the right time, I think this was the case with the Ocarina of Time for me.
