Exclusives, cheap trick or brilliant tactic?
I´ve already talked about exclusives but that was more focused on games, but it seems that these exclusives aren´t always just games but sometimes also dlc or a pre-order bonus. Either way that sucks for everyone that plays on a different console, because in the end gamers are the losers in these console wars!
It´s easy to hate Microsoft or Sony with their exclusive bullshit, I know that I´ve had my hate for quite some time when it comes to certain games and I´m still annoyed whenever I see a new game or content and it´s exclusive to one console. I don´t even care wether it´s for Microsoft or Sony, because it´s just an unfair load of crap for people that play on the other consoles! So that kind of makes you wonder, are they just being assholes or is there a bigger picture to these schemes?
Of course it´s about money, let´s not forget about that! But it´s definately a subtle way to convince gamers to buy their console or their version of the game, the more stuff they sell the more money they make and I doubt that either Microsoft or Sony will stop until they have been declared the victor. Eventhough that every year one of the two is considered as the winner when it comes to console and game presentations, I doubt that it means that the other will quit. It seems like an endless battle between two companies that just don´t know when to quit. Instead of using exclusives to motivate us to buy their shit they could just let people decide themselves, but apparently both companies aren´t confident enough to sit that one out. Because both Microsoft and Sony have to use the exclusive strategy to pull more gamers to their side, a cheap trick but an effective one!
Gamers fight eachother verbally in the comment section and sometimes use the dumbest arguments to plead their case, it´s enough to make a genius shoot himself or herself in the face! And for what? I mean you actually defend a company that makes money of you? You´re so proud that you´re a member of team Xbox or team Playstation that you´re willing to scream insults to everyone that is not on your team? And if that´s not enough reason to stop then how about playing games on your favourite console, the one you seem to defend/promote so furiously, instead of wasting time in mindless conversations online that lead to nothing.
I´m not saying that without exclusives there wouldn´t be console wars, but I do realize that they don´t actually help in this matter. In a way exclusives are a smart tactic, it´s such a subtle way to lure people away from their trusted console and towards something else. I know it´s tempting but if I had to buy everything that I liked then I doubt I had any money left to buy anything else. Life is about choices, I guess we can only hope that we make the right ones. So choosing the right console is just a part of being a gamer, sure some people buy them all but I doubt that everyone can afford that or want to do that. I think you should play what you like on the console that you prefer. Maybe just maybe you´re lucky enough that the exclusives fall in your favour, if not then it means you either have to wait until it´s not an exclusive anymore or if you really want it you can buy the other console so you can benefit from that exclusive. Gaming is an expensive hobby and exclusives only make it more expensive, so maybe it´s time for less bullshit and more fun in the world of gaming!
