Why are games delayed?!!!
It´s probably the worst news for a gamer, well maybe not the worst because a game that is cancelled and you were looking forward to playing that game might be even worse. But that doesn´t make it less bad, you were hoping to play the game in just a couple of months and now you have to wait another month or sometimes even a year! It´s not a surprise that this makes people upset, so maybe we can calm things down by figuring out why are games delayed. But seriously, why are games delayed?
A release date isn´t something you can depend on? I think a release date is more of an idea when the game might come out, oh sure some developers will promise you things but a release date isn´t always set in stone! But some developers go out of their way to get the game ready before the release date, it seems simple but that´s far from the truth! Some developers are even known for pushing the release date, sometimes several times. It´s frustrating that this happens and I wish that there could be something you can do about that but unfortunately you can´t. Well you could just ignore the game and refuse to buy it once it releases but I think you´ll only hurt yourself with that.
Games that are released later than first assumed are better? It´s not a guarantee but it´s usually a good thing when developers decide to put some extra work into a game, it usually keeps the bugs out and the fun in a game. Of course there are no guarantees with that, I mean even a game that is released later can still have plenty of bugs in it or just suck! But it´s not a bad thing when developers spend extra time on a game, it sucks that you have to wait a bit longer but it´s better than getting your game on time and having to deal with a broken game that isn´t fun to play or you´re even unable to play it at all!
So why are games delayed? Often just to get the game in the best condition, so people don´t have to deal with bugs or other crap in the game. Sometimes developers also change something after getting some negative comments about something they saw in the game, which means that they might want to alter that. Then there are also developers that change the release date because they don´t want to compete with another game that launches around the same time or because they do want to compete with that other game. So there is also a bit of strategy involved with release dates, I guess as a gamer you don´t care about that and you just want the game. I get that and I feel the same way, but developers think a bit differently and that´s not always for the best. But it helps if you´re patient and maybe pick up another game or spend some time on an older game, that helps you get through the delay and hopefully then it doesn´t feel like it´s taking that long.
