Looking back at.....Dead or Alive 2!
I´m pretty certain that most guys are familiar with the Dead or Alive games, probably because the women in this game have some over the top breasts that seem to bounce like crazy when they move. Which is of course ridiculous but apparently it doesn´t hurt to put that in the game because it´s a popular game series that stays strong over the years. Dead or Alive 2 was my first Dead or Alive game, it´s easy to think I bought this game for the bouncing breasts but to be honest I just wanted a fighting game and this game has some interesting characters. For example Ryu (from Ninja Gaiden), Hayate (in DoA 2 he´s called Ein) and Jann Lee (the Bruce Lee kind of guy).
So people don´t play this game for the female characters? Oh I wouldn´t say that, I mean let´s be honest and not ignore the fact that there are a lot of female character in DoA 2! I don´t know how this works for other gamers but I don´t pick a character for the way they look, I pick a character for the moves and something that works well for me. But there could be people out there that just pick the hottest character and learn to be good with that character, I can see how that works but I prefer to choose a character that works well for me instead of having to do my stinking best to get good with a character that doesn´t work well with me from the start. Of course it´s fun to switch it up every now and then, which means some interesting fights with some interesting characters.
What makes this fighting game stick out among all the other fighting games? I hate to admit it but I think it might be what I just talked about above, the female character with the bouncing breasts. There aren´t many other fighting games out there that make it look like that and when you look at other DoA games (for example the beach volleyball game) then it´s clear that this is purely based on guys, well maybe some girls like that too, and it´s not about the story or fantastic gameplay. But the characters are awesome, I have fun with tag team and smashing enemies through walls or other parts of the level which then leads to a different background. I don´t know if DoA was the first to come up with this trick but I do think it´s the first time I saw this in DoA 2.
Why should you buy a DoA game? It´s fun, the characters are sometimes a bit silly but not in a silly way like Tekken with their kangaroo or panda characters. It´s a fighting game that´s easy to learn but difficult to master, which makes it enjoyable to play with friends and gives a lot of people a chance to have a moment of glory. But if you enjoy seeing attractive female fighters beat the shit out of eachother then you´ve also come to the right game!
