Sinful Sunday: the art of annoying
I think the main reason to play games is to have fun, but how we have fun depends on the person. Some people have fun playing games solo, others have fun with friends and then there are people that have fun making the lives of others miserable. Which means that your fun comes at the expense of others, often strangers you don´t know. I don´t mind a bit of teasing myself but there is a point where you´re crossing a line or when you´re just being pathetic with attempts to annoy others.
Annoying other people is an art? If you want to do it right and be unique then yes it´s an art, if you just want to do what many others do and just be blunt then no it´s not an art. When I see comments under a youtube video then at least 25% of those comments are people trying to annoy others, often with asking dumb questions or saying things that will most likely get you a negative response. I think a lot of people are familiar with the first comment, then there are people that just copy something someone said and had succes with when it comes to annoying others. But then again youtube comments aren´t known for originality, they´re often full of people who have too much spare time and decide to waste that there.
When you annoy others then you should be ready to get a lot of hate, which sometimes goes pretty far. But it also depends on what you say, if you just say something silly then it´s not nice when people threaten you. But then again people have a big mouth online, something more than half of them wouldn´t have when they would meet that person face to face. The screen offers protection, eventhough it´s a false sense of protection because if you go over the line and someone reports you to the police then most times they will be able to figure out who you are. So maybe choose your words more carefully or perhaps come up with something good yourself. But if annoying people bother you so much then just try to let it go, perhaps it´s even smarter to not even look for these comments. You do realize that most times you have to scroll down to actually see these comments, so in a way you´re kind of looking for it yourself. You might want to keep that in mind the next time you read a comment that annoys you.
But what if people annoy you in private messages? Well you can make a drama out of it by responding, you could make the private message public and exposing that person for what he or she really is. But you could also just ignore and block that person, especially when you´re playing online then you shouldn´t get into fights with some random douchebag that sends you annoying messages. Oh it´s tempting to tell them what you think of them or to respond in a witty but insulting way, but does that really make you happy? It´s better to just ignore that person, report him or her if you feel like he or she is going too far, and enjoy the game that you´re playing. Isn´t that the reason why you started playing the game?
