Movie games vs (comic) book games

It might seems weird but there are definately games based on books, stories or comic books. Sometimes it´s just the character from a comic, for example Batman or Spiderman. I don´t think I need to mention that there are movie games, these games usually don´t have a good name but there are certainly exceptions that have proven to be pretty good! But which one is better, movie games or (comic) book games?

It´s all about the story? This is what´s important to me, so that makes (comic) book games often a bit more interesting for me to play. But that doesn´t mean I don´t enjoy movie games, it´s just that these games aren´t always following the story of the movie and don´t always feel like you´re playing scenes from the movie. Sometimes you play a level in a movie game that has no relation to the movie at all! Some like that, I´m not a big fan of that. Especially when it´s in the middle of the story, so you follow the story from the movie and suddenly you´re in a place you don´t know and have to do something that makes no sense. I guess sometimes developers try to be creative and I would normally applaud that, but there is a time and a place for such things and squeezing that in a story that´s already good just seems wrong to me!

It´s all about action and gameplay? A game that´s fun to play, which usually easy controls and good handling, is better than a game where you´re constantly figuring out what you need to press to get something done or if there a whole menu thing going on before you can do something. A nice movie game that does this right is X-Men Origins: Wolverine, because the controls are good and the game is fun to play! But does that make (comic) book games automaticly bad? No I don´t think so, the wolf among us actually proves that it´s possible to have a great story and good controls in one game! Sure it´s not as smooth as your average hack and slash game but you´re not struggling with controls or lost in a menu trying to figure out what you need to do. There is action and there is story, in a way the wolf among us combines both in one game. The Lego games also prove to be quite good at combining story and action, of course it´s in a silly way and it´s definately made for kids. But that doesn´t make it forbidden for adults!

So what´s better, movie games or (comic) book games? I think both types have their own quality but at this moment I´m leaning a bit more towards (comic) book games, mostly thanks to the wolf among us. Of course this can change and it sometimes only takes one good game to change your mind! But as some people would say, the book is better than the movie. I wouldn´t always agree with that but when it comes to games they might be right.
