K/d kids
I wish I could say how it was in the early years of first person shooters but I joined the ride in Black Ops, which isn´t that long ago. Of course I´ve played first person shooters just not highly competitive first person shooters. But the moment I started playing multiplayer in CoD Black Ops I realized that it´s not about reflexes or experience, it´s about picking a spot and holding that for as long as you can. Not for honour, not for glory but for your k/d.
Does your k/d matter? A lot of die hard gamers will often scream how important you k/d is, while others will laugh at the mention of any importance to your k/d. So does it really matter? I don´t think so, because k/d isn´t an accurate way of actually showing if a player is good or not. But a high k/d means you have more kills than deaths, doesn´t that mean something? Yes it means you got a lot of kills, but it doesn´t tell anyone how you got those kills. Did you actually hunt people down or did you camp in a corner? Because people that camp a lot often have a high k/d as well, which means that everyone with a high k/d isn´t always a good player. Which is why I put no value in the k/d system as it is now.
So what does the game need then? I think that next to your k/d there should also be a description of the way you play, for example if you rush then you´re a rusher and if you sit still a lot then you´re more of a camper. But I want it to go further, for example if you defend an objective then instead of a camper you could be more of a defender (that is if you actually defend it and not just camp near it). Then you have people that use tracking devices or perks to hunt down enemies which you could call hunters and people that run around with a knife are knifers. How about calling people that die a lot by running around on the map cannon fodder? This way you can earn a title next to your k/d which actually shows what type of player you are and also how you got your k/d. That would shut up any haters when people actually earned a high k/d and put campers in their place when they want to brag about their skills as everyone can see how they got their high k/d. Then k/d would actually have meaning again, so maybe that´s something for the future?
I´m not saying that it´s flawless, I´m certain people will try to find a think line between camper and moving around. Some people are just sad, they fool others and mostly themselves by playing the part of someone that is good at the game while they´re actually not if they play it as you should. These people will always show up in first person shooters, I don´t think I´ve played a lot of matches without any campers in it. Because that fucking precious k/d must be high to be someone, at least that´s what some of them are probably thinking. Some people aren´t even ashamed of their camping, they´ll upload videos and show how they got their k/d and laugh at any hate they get. Personally I don´t get it but I guess we all have our own way of playing the game and also enjoying it. It´s easy to say that it´s only kids that camp but I don´t think that´s true, but I do think that kids care more about k/d than adults. Still that doesn´t mean that adults don´t care about it, it´s really something that depends on the individual. The most important thing is that you´re having fun, because why would you play a game if you don´t have any fun playing it? For k/d? Let me just give you some advice then, seek help!
