Voice acting, art or easy income?
To some voice acting is an art but others think it´s just an easy way to make money, but what is it really? As a kid watching Disney movies I didn´t really think much of it, to be honest I didn´t really focus on that. But later in animated movies and games I did realize that there is a difference between good and bad voice acting, even experienced Hollywood actors can sometimes suck at voice acting. Maybe because it´s not really their thing, they weren´t really motivated or the script just sucks.
You don´t have to be famous to be a voice actor? Well it depends how you look at it, in the voice actor community and fans of course some names are pretty famous, but it wouldn´t suprise me that outside the world of games that people might have never heard of these people. But let´s not forget that voice actors also play roles in series or movies! No matter how small their role might be in these series or movies they definately left their mark in some games. Is it easy for someone new to make it in voice acting? I doubt it will be easy but I´m certain that if you do your best and have a real talent with doing impressions or just voice acting in general that you have a good chance to find some work! But it´s a tough business with a lot of competition, so don´t be suprised to see the same names appear in games when it comes to voice acting!
It´s always the same voice actors in games? That´s not true, there are a lot of voice actors so you don´t always hear the same people in games. But it´s true that sometimes certain voice actors are just so popular that they seem to appear in a lot of games, sometimes in a big role and sometimes in a small role. For example Steve Blum is a popular voice actor that you probably know best for doing the voice of Wolverine in several games and animated series, but sometimes he also plays a random character (often a soldier or henchman) in other games. Another popular voice actor is Jennifer Hale, a fantastic voice actor that is probably best known for doing the voice of Fem Shep (female Shepard in the Mass Effect trilogy). But she also did smaller roles for example in CoD Black Ops 2 (female pilot). Sometimes a voice actor only plays one role, just look at David Hayter as Solid Snake and Big Boss (in Snake Eater). Even when someone does a voice well it doesn´t always guarantee that this person will keep playing that role, because Kiefer Sutherland took over the role of Big Boss from David Hayter in Metal Gear Solid V the Phantom Pain. Something he did actually pretty good in my opinion.

I don´t want to talk shit about Bruce Willis because he´s a great actor but the voice acting in that game is just atrocious! So voice acting is definately not for everone, but sometimes motivation and a good script can definately help! I don´t know if it´s an art but it´s definately something special, because not many can do it and those that can still have to do their best to make it sound good. Which means it´s not an easy income, it´s a real job and it might seem easy but it´s not!
