Games are turning into movies?
I´m not talking about movie that is based upon a game, no I´m talking about games with cutscenes and graphics that make it feel as if you´re watching a movie. It might seem silly but have you seen the cinematic trailer of the Master Chief collection? Amazing! Of course this is just a trailer, there is absolutely no guarantee that this is what the game will give us, but it´s nice to see that it´s possible!
Are graphics important? For me it´s important that I can see what´s going on, if I have to stare to be able to play the game then that´s not a good thing, but I personally don´t really care about fancy graphics. But that doesn´t mean that I don´t appreciate it, I mean if a game looks awesome then that´s a nice bonus! I just don´t want the game to suffer because of that, when developers spend so much time on making a game look pretty and then the gameplay and story are absolutely crap. That´s just not worth it! I´m glad that this doesn´t happen a lot, so I think most developers understand what´s really important.
Better looking games create a glorious future for the game industry? I´ve seen more and more popular actors playing parts in games, some are just voice acting but there are others that also have their look in the game and modern technology allows that to look good. Which means actors have a whole new place where they can do their thing and it helps the game industry to grow! So pretty graphics definately help and it can be one of the things that convinces an actor to play a part in a game, which makes that game feel a bit more like a movie.
So games will become movies? I don´t think so, at least not the way things are now. Eventhough some games have amazing graphics they´re still games and most of them play like games. But then there have been games that do give you the idea that you´re playing in a movie, for example the game Heavy Rain does that in a good way. Of course in games like Halo this might be more difficult, because a first person shooter isn´t really the type of game you expect to be like a movie but with the first person view it could be. It puts you in the movie as one of the main characters and you play an important role, something you might wish you could do in a real movie! I think Metal Gear Solid games also point towards movies but still stick to the fact that they´re games. Maybe there will be a future where games and movies will be one and the same thing, but I doubt that we´ll be around to see that happen. So until then we´ll just have to do with entertaining movies and realistic games that are fun to play!
