Too much gaming will kill you!
Is that a little bit too dramatic? I know that it sounds ridiculous but seriously gaming can be bad for your health! Of course there are several other things that are also bad for your health and nobody seems to whine about that, well actually people whine about that but nobody seems to care about that. So why is this gaming can be dangerous thing so important? Because as much as I love gaming, I don´t want people to suffer because of their hobby. Hm once again a bit dramatic, I must have missed an opportunity in the theater...
What´s so dangerous about gaming? No it´s not the amount of violence in games, I´ve talked about that multiple times and a violent game doesn´t make a person violent. Of course it´s never a good idea to let a kid play an adult game, so that would be something you´d like to be careful with. The problem with a lot of gamer addicts is that they play games for a long period of time and not take a break, which means that they sit in the same position for several hours without any other movement than pushing buttons. Some gamers have a real gaming paradise where snacks and drinks are within reach so movement is really at a minimum for a long time. This is quite dangerous because your blood circulation will be less good when you´re in a sitting position for a long period of time. There have even been people that died because of this, when they stood up from a long perdiod of sitting and playing games. But also staying up late at night and staring at a screen for a long time can have nasty effects on your body, so try to do other things in your spare time. A well rested and relaxed person will perform better at school and work!
So what can I do to stay healthy? The easiest way is to stop playing games and get a hobby that keeps you active, of course this is probably quite unacceptable for a lot of gamers and I´m not going to promote that at all! So the next thing you can do is to stop playing that long, take a break after 15 to 30 minutes of gaming. This might seem lame but really sitting still for hours isn´t healthy! This is for people that like to play games and do this for a long time. If you´re a casual gamer that only plays for a couple of hours every day and then do some active things after that then I doubt you need to take that many breaks. Still a short break of about 10 to 15 minutes after every hour seems like a good idea to me. This counts for people who only play for a couple of hours every day and have other activities that they do on that same day. The thing is that you just don´t sit still for too long and no moving left and right on the couch doesn´t count as an exercise.
I know that doing stuff like this instead of gaming is lame, but you don´t want to take unnecessary risks with this. As much as you think you can handle this, you don´t want to take a gamble when your life is at stake. Oh here I go again with the drama, but really take good care of yourself and don´t be an idiot when it comes to taking care of yourself. In the end it´s really your business what you do, I just hope you do the right thing and think about people that care about you and would like you to be safe and healthy.
