Memorable opponents

In a lot of games people will remember the main character, his/her companions or the main boss. This actually makes good sense, because usually that´s what the game is all about, you focus on your character and often his/her most dangerous opponent. But is that always the final boss in a game? What if there is someone else in a game that´s actually a bigger threat? Or at least that scared the crap out of you, have you ever faced such an opponent?

Usually the weaker you are in games the more enemies you´ll remember when they constantly kill you, it´s a learning process that will often help you get past an annoying enemy in the game. But it doesn´t even have to be an enemy, sometimes it´s a certain jump or trick you have to do in order to get past the obstacle and make progress in the game. Maybe that´s even the worst, that you have to do something you keep failing to do. If there is an enemy you have to beat then it´s usually a matter of time, but with a certain jump or other ways to get past something then it really comes down to you doing just that. With an enemy it helps if you use a different weapon and a different strategy, but when it comes down to jumping then it´s just lame when you keep failing. I´d say it´s a matter of timing but don´t be suprised if you fail a lot before you actually make it. In the Batman Arkham games you often have to pull off some weird stunts to get certain collectibles (often Riddler trophies), so it sucks when you see the trophy but somehow you can´t get it. I´ve had moments that I spend minutes on one trophy, when sometimes it meant I had to wait until I got a certain gadget to help me with that or that I just left it alone until I figured out how I would get it. The strategy of keep trying until you get it or go insane isn´t a good strategy, I´d say your neighbours will probably also appreciate if you think before you keep doing the same thing and fail.

I think a lot of Resident Evil players know what would happen when they hear the sound of the chainsaw, something that started in Resident Evil 4 and also appeared in Resident Evil 5. Whenever you would hear that sound then you knew you had to be read for running and shooting, because you don´t want to be trapped in a corner when the chainsaw guy appeared. On normal this wasn´t that much of a problem but on higher difficulties you´d be in for quite a lot of fun with those guys. In Resident Evil 6 you had another enemy that made you think about your next action, but instead of a chainsaw guy you now had the weird Rasklapanje (a monster that keeps regenerating and can instantly kill you if they grab you and you don´t get free in time) monster. The slow death animation made it probably even worse, I think that almost lasted for 30 seconds and trust me I never felt more like rage quitting a game but somehow I never did that. But let´s not forget the nurses in the Silent Hill games, not very strong but still very creepy. In games you sometimes find disturbing, challenging and even hilarious opponents. Some of them you remember and often the more trouble they give you the more memorable they are, still every time you beat them it´s a victory for you and that is something that makes it worth it to keep trying to beat them.
