Dlc means dudes like cash?

I think that dlc is a good way to keep games interesting, because no matter how much you enjoy a game there will come a time and a place that you´re done with a game. So what better way to keep a game fun to play by creating new content for it. But this new content isn´t always appreciated, often developers are accused for filling their pockets with some cheap tactics. Which makes you wonder, what do you want to see in dlc?

It´s all about money? I guess you can´t get around it, yes money is important but I don´t think every developer is just going for money. Still offering dlc for a price is a good way to make some extra money. In games like CoD it´s easy to earn extra money with a new weapon camo or some avatar items. This is next to the planned dlc that gives you new maps and weapons, so do you really need those extra dlc packs or is it just something for the die hard fan? I think it doesn´t really matter, if the price is right then you´ll often find yourself buying something. I´d say half of the time you don´t really need it but with a good price you´ll sometimes buy some crazy things. For example the wolf skin is such a thing, you don´t really need it but it makes your guard dog look like a wolf and some people like that. With the price being low and you getting the wolf skin with only a click on a button it seems almost crazy not to go for it. Maybe that´s the problem, it´s become too easy to buy things and that often makes you buy things you don´t really need.

Another way to get people to spend more money then they first planned is with the season pass, because this promises you that you can get all future dlc for a lower price then when you´d buy it without having the season pass. A lot of players go for that, because most of us like to get a discount, pay less for the exact same thing. But is a season pass always reliable? Anyone that played Max Payne 3 probably knows that this isn´t always true, because the dates when new dlc should´ve been available didn´t quite work out so well. For some reason Rockstar failed to deliver the dlc packs in time and that made a lot of gamers angry, of course it can always happen not to be ready on the date you first thought you´d be ready. I understand the frustration of gamers but I also understand that sometimes you make mistakes, putting those dates online when new dlc packs would become available was a mistake. Never plan too far ahead when you can´t be certain that you have your content ready for the public. This rushed dlc often meant a lot of bugs in multiplayer, which ruined that for a lot of gamers.

I don´t mind paying for dlc, especially when it´s something I definately want. But often I find myself playing dlc that is short, not that interesting or something that should´ve been in the game from launch. It´s another trick to earn more money, leaving stuff out of the game and then offer it to gamers as dlc for a price. Does this make you mad? Well sometimes it makes me mad, that I pay for something that should´ve been in the game already. But what can you do? Not much, I guess you can stop playing a game and ignore it for as much as possible. Not that it would matter if there is still a big group of people that still play the game and buy the dlc. But don´t expect things to change, I mean it´s about money and no matter how much developers like games themselves we shouldn´t forget that they don´t give us money and dlc but they want money for it. Which is quite alright, as long as the games and dlc are worth it. Something that doesn´t always seem to be the case...
