Supernatural games
Have you ever seen an episode of Supernatural? I like the episodes and it´s a funny way of introducing yourself to some interesting nonsense. It´s nothing you should take too seriously but it´s definately a lot of fun to watch, the dynamic between the two main actors is good and the sometimes hilarious characters they encounter make it quite entertaining. But after watching several episodes of the latest season I couldn´t help but wonder, why aren´t there any good supernatural games?
I´m not even talking about a game based on the Supernatural show, I´m talking about games that have supernatural creatures in it or that is based on the supernatural. I think Blood Rayne touched the supernatural a bit but I doubt people really played that game for that, I think the red headed dhampir had a more convincing way of grabbing the attention of gamers. Of course that´s not a problem, having an attractive main character isn´t that distracting...most of the time at least. I´m thinking more of something like you being a hunter and you have to hunt down supernatural creatures. But I wouldn´t mind a game where you play a vampire or a werewolf and you have to hunt down the hunters or solve a mystery. I think that you can make an interesting game based on the supernatural.
Aren´t there already a lot of survival horror games? Well I don´t think that there are that many survival horror games, they´re usually not as popular as other games. Most survival horror games are for people aged 18+ and as many as that might be this isn´t usually the type of players that most developers aim for. I think they aim for gamers between the ages of 12 and 17, which is old enough for some games and most of them have money of their own to spend. Of course there are kids playing 18+ games but let´s just assume that people play the games they´re supposed to play, at least that´s what you´d expect at first. But how many of those kids play a real horror game? I mean when I see people playing some survival horror games online then it´s hilarious to see how scared some of them are while playing it. I know that a lot of people like to talk big, but how many people actually finished some of these scary games? I think I still have some mental scars after my Silent Hill games, so I guess I´m not that interested in getting mind fucked again by some game. Which is why I would definately like a bit of scare tactics but also some good action, I say good action because I don´t like the combat system in the Silent Hill games since Silent Hill the room (which is number4).
So how would it work? I think as a hunter you should have several types of weapons and ammo, but also you have to do some research. Of course it shouldn´t get too boring, but a little bit of using your mind doesn´t hurt anyone! But as a vampire or werewolf you could have other powers, some based more on stealth while others are just tearing through enemies. I think Skyrim had a good idea with the vampire and werewolf powers in the Dawnguard dlc, I still think it´s one of the best I´ve played in years! I´m certain that there are a lot of people who might be interested in this idea, I just hope that someone will pick it up and do something with it. I don´t mind first person shooters or some other mindless nonsense, but sometimes you want more...
