Help, I´ve been hacked!!!

Has your account ever been hacked? You might think that the chance of being hacked is very small but actually it happens a lot more than you might think. Yesterday I got a message that someone with another email tried to change my information with my WoW account. I have to admit that I haven´t used that in years, but still to see some stranger messing with that seems unacceptable. So the first thing I tried was to stop this from happening, but what can you do?

I think one of the first things you do when you´re hacked is looking for information or trying to get in touch with game support. That seems simple, right? Wrong! Have you ever tried to get in touch with someone? Well when it comes to game support then that´s not always easy, because they´ll send you through a long list of automatic answers and other bullshit before anyone actually wants to help you personally. I mean what happened to helping your customers? Now all that happens is being send from one place to the other and not getting any further with your problem. Is this the future of interacting with eachother? Oh you have a problem? Well we have all answers on our site, have fun finding them! As a kid I remember calling the Nintendo help line whenever I was stuck in a game, sure you had to pay money for that but you could choose if you wanted help from automatic answers or a real person. As much as some of the automatic responses might be useful, I always chose for having an actual person on the line because that just works much better. I think we´ve been hiding behind screens for so long that some of us are starting to be socially awkward.

But it´s not impossible, I´m not saying I can´t get it fixed and that I can´t find my way through all their automatic solutions. That´s not the point, the point is that it feels like they try to talk as little with you as possible and make it easy for you to actually get help. It´s already bad enough that someone hacked you, so now you have to go through endless solutions just to try and fix someone that isn´t your fault that it got messed up. That just seems wrong to me, I really mean that!

For those that have also been hacked I would strongly advice you to change your information and password, so use another email and change the security questions. Also if you don´t use the account anymore then it might be a good idea to just get rid of it, at least if that´s possible. If you still want to make us of it then try to secure it as good as possible, even if that means you have to write down a password because it´s so complicated. The more effort you have to do to log in, that´s even more effort someone else has to do to hack it. Always keep your information secure!
