Taking games too seriously
I think everyone that has fun playing games don´t take games that seriously, because if you take games too seriously then what kind of fun are you having? I´ve always been a supporter of having fun in games, if a game isn´t fun then I don´t know why I should play it. You don´t read a book when it´s boring do you? Well maybe for school you might need to read some of those books, but with your free will you wouldn´t read that. So why do you play games if you´re not having fun playing them?
What do you mean with taking games too seriously? I think sometimes there are moments in games that you have to concentrate, there is no time for giggles or fooling around. But that doesn´t mean that you´re not enjoying yourself, this isn´t what I mean with taking it too seriously. I´m talking about people who are so busy with their k/d ratio that they forget to have fun with it, these are often the same type of people that leave a match when they die once or twice in the first minute of the game. It´s not that I don´t get it, it´s nice if you have a high k/d ratio but if you let that be the main thing of every match you play then you´re going to have a lot of bad games, moments that you´re not enjoying yourself and where you abandon your team just because things don´t go the way you want them to go.
But when you play in a team shouldn´t you be a bit more serious? When it´s about working together to advance through the game or surviving then I guess it´s not a bad thing to be a bit more serious, but never forget to have fun at the same time. With fun I mean making some jokes or just making certain that things don´t become too boring. I don´t encourage behaviour that is annoying or even lethal to the team, that way you might have fun but that comes at the cost of others. Then you´ll get angry responses and you might think that they take the game too seriously. But it´s not fun when you´re trying hard to succeed and someone else is making certain that you never will, that´s not fun that´s just annoying.
We all have our own personality, some of these personalities dont´always match that well. So when you´re in the same team that can be quite annoying, but I don´t think it always has to be a problem. You can mute and ignore people, so it´s not that you should take offense in every idiot that seems to be bored. In Halo Reach you could actually fill in some preferences when it comes to what type of people you want to play with. For example you could decide if you wanted to play with people that are talkative or silent, but also what type of player you are (a lone wolf, a team player) so you could find others like you more easily. I miss that in a lot of multiplayer games, because now most of us get thrown in the same match and a lot of times people don´t get along with eachother. Wether that´s because of an age difference, a different playstyle or just the way they are. Gamers don´t always get along with eachother, so why not make it easier to find people like you so you have less annoyance and more fun in a game. Maybe then people will stop taking games too seriously, at least it would be a start.
