Escape into a game world

It's so tempting to start up a game and lose yourself in the game world, just to forget your every day troubles and not having to think about the pain you have to endure in real life. It's so easy to just jump into that fantasy world and live a completely different life, but sooner or later you have to come back to the real world and that doesn't make things easier. Sometimes it's even harder because you're not dealing with your troubles, you run away from them and when they catch up with you it feels like things have gotten worse. So is it a smart idea to escape into a game world or should you just face your troubles and deal with them directly? Running away doesn't help? Running away hardly ever helps you with solving something, it often makes things worse or at least things won't solve themselves. So running away doesn't really help you, it can make things worse or just don't help you with solving whatever it is that's bothering you. That ...

Take a risk with a game or stick with what you know?

When I want to buy a game I like to do some research about that game, because the last thing I want is to buy a game that is lame. Not only is that a waste of money but it's pretty much also a waste of space on your harddrive and of your time. So it's smart to do a bit of research before you buy a game, but sometimes there are moments where you have to act quickly. A game is for sale and it looks really interesting, are you going to buy it or are you going to play it safe? I'm not going to pretend that I never made mistakes but sometimes it is worth it to take a chance, but I would strongly listen to my gut feeling and if that's feeling is good then I don't mind taking a chance every now and then. Stick with the games you know? When you buy a lot of games that suck or that just didn't make you happy playing them then you'll be more careful with your next purchase. The last thing you want is to buy another game that sucks, so you'll probably think twi...

I hate Monday: Toxic team mates

Isn't it fun to play games with other people? Well it should be and sometimes it can really be fun but sometimes it's also a really unpleasant experience. When people are being so toxic that it sucks the fun out of any game and makes you want to do anything else but play that game. It's such a shame how there are so many toxic players out there and that makes certain game communities really unbearable because the toxic players are often the loudest players in those communities. Everything you do is bad? Have you ever been in a team and someone in the team was constantly complaining about everything? This type of player in your team is someone you don't want in your team because no matter what you do it's always bad. Even when they're the first one to die they'll give you shit for everything you do. Because it's so easy to talk shit about other people. These toxic players are really unpleasant and unfortunately in a lot of multiplayer team based games...

Sinful Sunday: Forcing people into party chat

Have you ever joined an online multiplayer game and someone or more than just one person keeps bugging you to join party chat? I've seen this happen multiple times and it's really lame when people do that. Because not only are they rude, for example they'll keep sending you messages with join asshole or accept noob, they also force you to do something you don't want to which is never ok! Of course it's better if you communicate but when your team mates are rude and immature do you really want to hear them talk? Be honest! I don't think so! It's not ok to force people into party chat? No, I don't think it's ever ok to force someone into doing something. If someone doesn't want to join in party chat then you will have to accept that. Do you really think that this person will join in party chat after you insult them or send them ten more invites? Maybe if you have the brain capacity of a peanut that makes sense but I think most people will reali...

Sea of Thieves beta, the multiplayer experience!

When you play Sea of Thieves on your own you're in for adventure and fun, but the game comes truly to life when you play with others. The game is pretty much meant to be played this way. So I joined the big crews, a total of four players on a ship, and you sail on the biggest ship in the game. That is pretty much the same as the small ship but things are more based on working together instead of you doing everything on your own. On the big ship you need to communicate and work together or else you're in trouble! Communication is key! When I first joined multiplayer I joined a crew of three people and I was the fourth, but the problem was that nobody talked and nobody even used the in game chat select system which at least offers some sort of communication to anyone that doesn't have a mic. So we were just floating around on the sea with a crew that didn't do anything and we also had no quest. Not a great start of my multiplayer experience. After a couple of minutes ...

Gaming communities that are or turned toxic, what happened?

There's a reason why I enjoy playing single player games, you don't have to deal with other people. Don't get me wrong I actually do enjoy playing games with other people but in some gaming communities things are just so toxic that it's very difficult to enjoy yourself playing that game unless you can play with friends. If you join the solo queue then you're in for some frustration and toxic behaviour. But not every gaming community started this way, somehow something happened that made it turn into this and all we can hope for is that we can turn it back to something better or should we just ignore these type of games and hope for something less toxic in the future? Gaming communities are turning into a toxic environment? Usually in the first couple of weeks everyone is happy with the new game, perhaps people are busy with certain things like unlocking achievements/trophies or exploring the maps, but there comes that time when things turn toxic. That moment whe...

Sea of Thieves beta, the single player experience!

I think most people want to dive quickly in multiplayer and team up with other people in the Sea of Thieves beta, but did you know that you can also play on your own? Well I say on your own but you still share the online world with other players. But you have your own ship and can do your own things. The game mentions that this is the most difficult way to play but I think it's the best way to learn the basics of the game and get familiar with a lot of things in the game. So here are some of the things I discovered and I talk a bit about my adventures in the game. Better learn quickly! I was surprised how the game offers no tutorial or anything at all when you start, I literally had no idea what I needed to do and where I needed to go. No indicators on the map or a map at all actually. On your ship you get a big map that shows you where the islands are but when you're off your ship then you're on your own! So it probably wouldn't surprise you that I spend at least t...

Exclusive games are dumb?

Sometimes you see this amazing game and you really want to play it, but then you discover it's an exclusive game and if you really want to play it then you have to buy a console or another console. There was a time and a place that I did such things but I stopped with that because it's a waste of money and is one game truly worth buying a console or another console? In my opinion it's not, because one game isn't enough and five games isn't even enough. I think you should stick with whatever works best for you. So as a PC gamer you might want to stick to your PC and if you're console gamer then why would you want to buy the other console? Maybe if you have money burning a hole in your pocket it might be tempting but otherwise I would suggest to stick with what you have. Why are there exclusive games? That's actually quite obvious, it's a way for Sony or Microsoft to get you to buy their console. Even Nintendo is known for these type of pranks or di...

Online mutliplayer behaviour, gamers are stupid?

Sometimes I hear people about a study where it shows how gamers have a higher intelligence than people who don't play games and they also have a higher level of concentration than people who don't play games. That's all great but is this actually true? I want to believe that, but when I look at myself I can't say I feel smarter than the average person who doesn't play games and I can't say that I have such a high level of concentration. When I look at an online mutliplayer lobby in a game then I can't say that I'm struck in awe by the intelligent conversations there or behaviour that makes me think like someone is having a stroke while playing the game considering the weird movement and things he or she is doing. Are gamers really that smart? Well let's try to figure it out. Gamers are morons? That's harsh and not true. Why? Because you can't put all the gamers on one pile. For example your average CoD or Battlefield fan boy or girl is...

I hate Monday: Team killing fucktards!

Is there anything more annoying than a guy or girl on your team that decides to shoot you instead of the enemy? Not only is that annoying but it gives away your position as well. In some games friendly fire is automaticly on which means they can also kill you, which goes unpunished in most games. Some just do it for fun but in all honesty I think these are just sad people with no life, because why on earth would you should your team mate for no reason at all? Oh right you're a sad loser, now it makes a lot more sense! Why are people shooting their team mates? There could be multiple reasons, it's easy to assume that someone is just a douchebag and kills you on sight just for his or her own amusement but I think sometimes there are also other reasons. For example you're holding a weapon they want and so they kill you to get it, instead of asking they think that killing you is the best way to get what they want. I've seen that happen in Halo multiplayer and Fortnite B...

Sinful Sunday: Thinking you're better than someone else

It's easy to think that way actually, sometimes you might not even realize it but this is sometimes something that can sneak up on you. The feeling that you're better than someone else, you might think you have the moral high ground but this type of feeling is just wrong. Nobody is better than someone else, we're all just people that try to make the most of things in this world. Is one person truly better than the other? I don't think so! You're not better than someone else? Sometimes I hear people talk about how they don't eat meat, they drive in electric cars and they're helping other people in their spare time. That's all great but that arrogance to think that this makes them better than others is just something that ruins all that. I know not everyone is like that but I've heard some people talk about how they're pretty much saints and I like to mock them by asking them where their statue is going to be placed. There is nothing wrong with...

Metal Gear Survive, is it worth checking out?

Has there ever been a game that got more hate when it was announced than Metal Gear Survive? I can't say for certain but I doubt that there could be another game that is so hated at the moment. But is Metal Gear Survive really such a terrible game? Well not really, I mean it's not amazing but it definitely has some fun moments and if you have a group of friends to play with then this game can be fun to play. For solo players it's a bit less fun in my opinion. So should you check this game out? Well the open beta is live now, till the 21st of January, so if you want to check the game out then now is the time to do with for free! Things I like about Metal Gear Survive. I like the gameplay a lot, it's pretty much like Metal Gear Solid 5 but with some extra abilities. For example now you can craft items that you can use to defend or protect yourself. For example fences to keep the wanderers (it's how they call the zombie type monsters in this game) out or a turret t...

YouTube sponsored videos, you can't trust them?

How many times have you not seen a YouTube sponsored video and wondered if the YouTuber actually likes the game he or she is sponsoring? Oh sure he or she will say that the game is great but keep in mind that they're pretty much expected to be positive about the sponsored game. The best way to figure out if the sponsored game is really that good is if the YouTuber also plays that game when he or she isn't sponsored to play that game. So if he or she never plays the game again then it's safe to say that the game is probably not as amazing as he or she wants you to believe. Why do people make sponsored videos? That's simple, it's because they get payed to do those videos. But some YouTubers say that they only accept sponsors from things they like or believe in. So if they think that a game is bad then they don't want to make a sponsored video about that game. That's at least what you would have to believe, if it's true that remains to be seen because p...

Winning a game, is it luck or skill?

In a lot of videos on YouTube I hear people say how lucky the other person was to get a shot on them or to be able to kill them. As if being able to kill this person in the game requires luck, but is it truly just luck or do some people also have skill? I know that this is a senstive topic because people who believe that they have skill will often take offense in being told that they're just lucky and people that are lucky sometimes believe that they're skilled. As if it's a bad thing to be lucky, I mean I would love to be lucky in all my games and I'd take luck over skill any day! I guess some people are just afraid that luck doesn't get them any respect. Not that this really matters because who cares what Is7ePtwitHurm0m thinks of you! Yes this is a random gamertag I just came up with. It's a bad thing to be lucky? If you have to believe some people then yes, but I don't think that's true. Do you honestly think that professional gamers are all skil...

Will all the bugs and glitches ever be fixed in the Sims 4 console edition?

We're a month further and there is still no update for the Sims 4 console edition, there are still bugs and glitches that make it very frustrating to play the game and somehow the developers are ignoring that. What's worse is that they release more dlc content without first fixing the previous content, which means you probably get more bugs and glitches into your game with the new dlc. It's like the developers just really don't give a flying fuck about the players and the issues in the game, let's just make some money! New dlc means more bugs and glitches? In the Winter sale I bought some more Sims 4 dlc, maybe not the smartest move but I like playing the Sims 4 (at least when everything is working) and getting the dlc for a cheaper price was something I couldn't resist. But with new dlc I also got new bugs and glitches, for example whenever I let my sims use the karaoke machine the game seems to freak out a bit, I've even had the game shut down without ...

I hate Monday: I hate loot boxes!

Is there anything more hated than loot boxes in 2017? I think that it started small, in some games as a new reward system but more and more games need to have this system because it will slowly drain you of more money. Of course you don't have to pay for them but if you really want the cool stuff in the game you like to play then you better pay up real money because the currency in the game is often not the way to pay for those loot boxes. Is it so weird that I hate these loot boxes? Maybe it is but I doubt I'm the only one! Invasion of the loot boxes? It certainly looks that way! What's worse is that Xboxlive live with the achievements will be changed and there are rumors that there will also be a loot box system with that involved. Just when I try to defend Microsoft with their system they're planning something dumb like that. It's cool if you can unlock new things but why do we need loot boxes for that? Oh right so suckers can pay real money to get rewards. I...

Sinful Sunday: Annoyed with every little thing in a game

Games aren't always frustrating from the start, sometimes it takes some time before it starts to annoy you. I think it's because at first you're still new to the game, you're happy to play the game and you might be a bit more tolerable towards these minor frustrations. But after a week you might be less tolerable towards these minor frustrations, up to the point where you're very annoyed with all the things that go wrong or go differently than you want them to go. Can you avoid the frustration? Sure, just don't play the game. Ok that was a lame answer but honestly what do you expect? It's not that you can truly avoid frustration in a game, but you can handle it better. Instead of constantly putting yourself through frustration you can take a break from the game, sometimes that's all you need to avoid more frustration. It's the constant build up of frustration that will make you so annoyed with a game that even the slightest issue can become huge ...

What makes you want to buy and play a certain game?

With so many games coming out in a year and not enough time and money to play them all you often have to make choices which games you're going to play and which games you're not going to play. Some people reserve their money for the triple A games and there are some that are waiting for some sales and then buy a lot of games for a cheap price. But what makes you want to buy a game? Is it just the price or are you actually looking at what the game has to offer? Let's take a closer look at some of the motivations people have for buying a game. As long as the price is right? When a game is super cheap, in my opinion that is below ten Dollar or Euros, then it becomes very tempting to buy a game. Even if you're not completely certain about a game you probably don't want to miss out on this cheap bargain and would want to buy the game. I did that with Shadow of Mordor, the game was only six Euros so I couldn't help but take a chance with that, and it was a good de...

Fable 4 might be coming?

I really enjoyed playing the Fable games, ok the last Fable game I played was Fable 3 and as much as some people hate that game I still enjoyed playing it, and even the thought of getting Fable 4 would already make me happy. But is this rumour true? Well that's difficult to prove considering most of this speculation comes from a deleted tweet on Twitter, so who knows if it's true but isn't it great that there is at least a chance that it might be real? Why are you so excited about Fable 4? Because I really enjoyed playing the Fable games, at least the first three. I can't say I'm really happy with the other Fable games that had very little to do with the original gameplay. Just give me a character I can customize and go on an adventure in an open world, that would already make me excited about the next Fable game! But the more you can do the better of course, I mean it's fun to just do quests but it's often the extra things that make a game amazing. I do...

One good moment can save a bad game?

We've all been there, you bought a game that turned out not to be as much fun as you hoped it would be. Maybe at first you were still hopefully but sooner or later you realize that the game isn't that much fun for you. It's easy to stop playing but if you payed money for the game then you can just as well finish it just to be done with it. And then it happens, that one moment in the game that just makes you think that it actually wasn't such a bad game. Is that for real or am I just making that up? Well it has happened, when one moment in a game can make things better but to truly make a bad game good seems unlikely to me. Bad games can have good moments in them? Sure, not every game is amazing from start to finish. I've played games that were lame from the start but got better the further I got. Sometimes it's also the other way around, when a game is fun at first but has a terrible ending. I think that's actually worse, because I'd rather go throug...

Stealth, why it's so powerful yet underestimated in online multiplayer

I prefer to use my seek and destroy gameplay tactic, I roam around the map looking for enemies and shoot them on sight. It can be effective but against campers and more sneaky opponents you will often be beaten. Because patrolling around in a certain part of the map doesn't just make you predictable but it's also pretty loud compared to a more sneaky approach. Then there are people that just like to rush in battle and go for the 360 no scope nonsene but the true victors are often the sneaky players. Oh of course also the dipshit camping in the corner but this isn't about those type of players. Stealth is worth it? Stealth often means you have to slow down, you can't run and you have to stick to cover or some sort of cover. Running out in the open isn't stealth gameplay but unfortunately sometimes you don't have much of a choice. Camping in the corner isn't stealth by the way, that's just being sad. Stealth means you sneak a lot and go for the sile...

Fortnite Battle Royale, actually fun if you give it a try

I've been quite negative about Fortnite Battle Royale and the Battle Royale game mode itself for some time. Not that I want to be a hater but I know from my own experience that I'm not a big fan of these type of game modes because it's often full of trolls, try hards and just not fun people to play a game with. But I decided to give Fortnite Battle Royale an honest chance and didn't back out after one or two matches. I stuck with it and learned from my mistakes and slowly improved and eventually even won in solo mode. So was it fun? Yeah, it was actually fun because it feels fresh and exciting which I can't say about every multiplayer game or other game in general. Why were you so negative about the game before? Because I played these type of games before and I know how frustrating it can be and how annoying other people can be in these type of games. I'm not saying that you're always dealing with super fun situations in Fortnite Battle Royale but the ga...
