Sinful Sunday: Shaming another player for lack of money

You've probably read and maybe even heard some players talk about this. When someone asks for some free dlc or complains that the price for a game or dlc is too high there are often people who will comment on this and say that this person should get a job. As much as you might think that these people are right to say that I do think it's a bit blunt to say the least and you don't know the situation of this person. So to say something like that isn't just rude but also dumb, because what if this person has a job and can just barely pay the bills? I think it's only natural that you then look for good deals with games and dlc.

Gaming is an expensive hobby?

Unfortunately it is, probably one of the most expensive hobbies if you play a lot of different games on multiple consoles. It can easily take a big chunk of your money away each month if you're not careful and it's easy to spend a small fortune on gaming if you're not careful. I try not to go too crazy with spending money on games but sometimes a lot of cool games come out around the same time and that could lead to spending a lot of money in that month on gaming alone. It's nice when you can afford that but I doubt many people have enough money to always buy everything they want. You have to make choices and that sometimes leads to situations where you can't buy a new game or the latest dlc. Which sucks of course but unfortunately it happens sometimes.

Assuming someone is a lazy asshole is dumb?

I think it's always dumb to assume something of someone you don't know. But that has never stopped any of us to assume things anyway. For example when I see some guy camping in the corner then I assume this is a sad sack of shit, which isn't nice of me but it's easy to assume that looking at the behaviour of someone in a game. Something similar happens when people ask for free stuff in a game or a price drop for games, dlc or other items in the game. These people are often marked as lazy and pathetic. As if they sit at home all day playing games instead of getting a job that helps them pay for the games and other things they want to buy. The truth is that you don't know what their situation is. They could have a job but it's a job that pays poorly and eventhough they work hard they only get that little bit of money for it and most of that money is spend on bills and items they need (for example food and other items to take care of yourself). Having some money left for games is great but it's not for everyone, there are people that have to live a life with only a 100 Dollars or Euros a week, this makes gaming almost impossible unless they decide not to eat for a week or something like that. It's easy to assume things, to make fun of people and to be a rude scumbag but in truth sometimes people aren't what you think they are. Shaming someone isn't a good thing, even if you're certain this person is just a lazy asshole doesn't mean that you should shame this person. If a comment annoys you then you can always ignore it, there is no need to shame someone because that makes you the asshole in my opinion!
