YouTube adventures -88- Running out of ideas?
I've heard this so many times when I look at popular channels, the YouTuber(s) gets accused of running out of ideas and falling into repetition. I can say for certain that I've most likely repeated myself over the years. I've talked about the same subject multiple times and I probably have said the exact same thing in multiple posts. Is that a bad thing? It depends, I think it's impossible to be a 100% original for your entire YouTube career and sometimes you do fall into repetition or hit subjects that aren't going to be that interesting for some people. But does that truly mean that you're...
Running out of ideas?
It's not a crime to repeat yourself but for a viewer it can be annoying if you end up repeating yourself. I mean who wants to see the exact same thing multiple times? Oh there might be people who don't mind but I honestly doubt that people want to see the same thing over and over again. If someone would like that then they can just click on the old video and see that again instead of looking at a new video that is about the same thing. But this could just be a mistake and it doesn't automaticly mean that someone is running out of ideas.
What is more a sign of running out of ideas is if you make videos about the slightest things that might seem interesting to the YouTuber who made the video. Not that there is anything wrong with making a video about something you like but your viewers might have a different opinion on that. Some YouTubers are known to please their subscribers, to give them what they want. That probably sounds wrong but what I mean with this is that they give the viewers the video they would like to see. So if they enjoyed gameplay from Dead by Daylight then it's not that difficult to predict that the YouTuber will make more videos with gameplay from this game. It definitely helps if you enjoy playing the game yourself, I mean watching someone being frustrated with a game can be fun but not for ten videos in a row.
This is why diversity is such a good thing, don't put everything on one thing. Maybe you're this amazing Battlefield or CoD player but if you make all your videos about those games then you're only hitting a small percentage of all the people that could be interested in your videos. Eventhough both games are quite popular it's not the majority of all the players and why only focus on a small group if you can try to reach more people with different videos. This also keeps thing fresh and hopefully inspires the YouTuber to stay creative.
If you truly run out of ideas then I suggest you look at what you've done, what you haven't done and what you would like to do. There has to be a way forward with that information! In the end it's really up to you, the YouTuber, to decide what you want to do with your channel. Being creative is of course easily said than done but repeating the same thing over and over again will most likely only get you that far. I mean there are people with a main focus on one type of game and they're doing well with that, but I'd say that's more of an exception.
