YouTube adventures -87- Selling your YouTube channel?
I think most people that start with a YouTube channel never imagined that one day they would be selling it. When you first start you're full of ideas and you want to try most of those ideas or at least think about trying those ideas. It's great when your channel grows and you get more subscribers, this motivates you more and you want to do more. But sometimes things happen, busy with school or your job, that make it harder to put so much focus on your channel. Do you give up on school and your job or would you...
Sell your YouTube channel?
It seems pretty extreme to sell your YouTube channel but it's not completely unthinkable. Wouldn't you rather see it in the hands of someone who would take good care of it than to slowly see it die? Well maybe some people are too attached and couldn't let go and I understand that, I doubt I would ever sell my channel. Not that my channel is such a succes but the videos are made by me and it would be as if I would sell a piece of myself. I don't think I could do it but maybe it's easier for other people.
You might wonder who would want to buy a YouTube channel and to be honest I don't know exactly who would do that but considering you're not asking a fortune and the person who is interested can afford it then I don't think it's quite impossible. You just don't hear this often because most of the popular YouTubers aren't selling their YouTube channels, so if someone would be buying a YouTube channel then it's often not a huge channel but maybe a mediocre channel.
Getting someone new to take over can be a good thing though, I mean some fresh ideas and thoughts into the channel could do wonder but I don't think all the subscribers would be happy with that. They subscribed to the person that first had the channel and not the person who took over. So it remains to be seen if people are going to stick with the channel under the new owner. But I think everyone deserves a chance and it's not fair to abandon the channel immediately without first seeing if this new owner is going to to make fun content or not.
I personally wouldn't recommend selling your YouTube channel because you made it and the videos on the channel are yours, so in a way the channel is a part of you. I wouldn't feel comfortable selling the channel and I don't think it's a good idea either. Not just because it feels wrong but it's also not nice towards your subscribers. These are people that subscribed to you and it's not nice to just abandon them. Maybe you have a really good reason and you could explain that but when you sell your channel then it wouldn't surprise me that some people think you might do it only for the profit. So if you ever think about selling your channel then think long and hard on it, because this is a choice that will have consequences!
