The most disappointing games of 2017
We're almost at the end of the year so it's time to look back at all the games that launched in 2017 and of course look at games that are fun to play and those that weren't that fun to play. First I wanted to take a look at the most disappointing games of 2017. These are games that I find disappointing, so it's my opinion and I don't want to state that as a fact. But it wouldn't surprise me if more people didn't like these games that much.
For Honor.
For Honor is a game that looked so promising and when I played the beta it was actually quite fun to play, but somehow the main game never really interested me that much. The campaign was too short in my opinion and the gameplay not exactly as good as I was hoping for. Too many times I would hit enemies and it wouldn't damage them, they would hit me through a wall or around a corner and then there would be moments where you get hit while enemies aren't within melee range. Enough reason to be frustrated with the game but then you have the multiplayer aspect where you face people that try to cheese their way to victory. It was honestly one of the worst multiplayer experiences in 2017 for me because already in my first 1 vs 1 duel the opponent ran up to me and tried to throw me in a gap. That's the type of players you can expect in For Honor and I honestly lost interest in the game quickly after the multiplayer experience. How can a game that's called For Honor have so many cowards and dishonorable douchebags in it? I guess it's just a reflection of what competitive multiplayer is these days in some games.
Friday the 13th the game.
I was looking forward to this game, it looked so interesting and I was definitely interested in playing but things went already horribly wrong on the first day. It launched on a Friday but somehow the game wasn't in the Xbox store so I and a lot of other people couldn't buy it. I should've seen this as a warning and never bought it but I was still full of hope and I definitely wanted to buy it. So the next day the game was in the store and I bought it, but guess what? I couldn't play it because quick play didn't work! Somehow the game couldn't find matches for you and unless you played with a group of friends or met up with people online and got together for a game you wouldn't be able to play the game. Which sucked! It took about two weeks for the developers to fix the quick play problem and then the majority could finally also play Friday the 13th, but the game was super laggy, super buggy and full of glitches that could easily get you stuck. On top of that the community existed out of a lot of sad sacks of shit that would rage quit the moment they would be killed or you would be in a lobby of a group of friends that tried to humiliate if you became Jason or sell you out to their friend if you played as a counselor. Then there's the team killing or just random screwing eachother over. As if the game didn't have enough problems you get an annoying online experience with other players on top of that. So this game is something I try to forget about as fast as possible!
Destiny 2.
This might surprise you but let me explain, the game isn't really that bad but I do consider it a disappointment. Why? Because promises were made and somehow I didn't see a lot of those promises in the game. It's still the same bullshit as in Destiny, people with the group of friends can easily get the best stuff from the high tier challenges. Challenges of the Nine, raids and nightfall raids are only for people that are in a group, you can't solo queue into these game modes. Oh yes there is this experiemental version where you can try to team up with people in a clan that need extra people but a lot of these experiences are just not that much fun. Some people demand you join their clan, then there are those that treat you like a child and there are even those that don't say a thing and it really beats the point of teaming up because the raid alone is something where you need to communicate to succeed. At that point you could just put matchmaking into the raid and it would probably lead to the same outcome. I just wish that Bungie put more effort into the solo experience, stop making it all about teaming up and make it more about the journey of your guardian. That is what interested me about the first game and gave me hope for the second game. There are improvements in Destiny 2 but it's still not a game that I enjoy playing that much. It's fun for some time but sooner or later you'll hit that moment where you need a group to advance further unless you feel like making a little bit of progress every week with the things you can do on your own. Destiny 2 isn't a bad game but a big disappointment for me.
Fortnite.
I know that Fortnite is a very popular game right now but that's mostly thanks to Fortnite Battle Royale, the PvP version of the game. The game started as a PvE game and it was fun for some time. But things change when you hit a certain part of the game where you have annoying missions that require more people to complete and somehow the game just seems deserted and that became much worse when Battle Royale launched for Fortnite. Now PvE is just a barren wasteland where there are hardly any players active and only during an event you might encounter some other players, no guarantee though! Then there are frustrating players in PvE that want to leech in and join your match but do absolutely nothing the entire match. This alone makes you want to play on your own, which isn't the way the game is meant to be played. On top of that you also have to deal with technical issues that are just never being fixed. Right now there is an issue with weapon swapping in PvE, it sometimes makes you gun disappear or you're stuck on one gun and you can't swap. I think the only way to enjoy Fortnite these days is to play PvP and that's only for people that like Battle Royale and I'm not one of those people. I had high hopes for this game and actually enjoyed it at first, but it turned out to be a disappointment and it wouldn't surprise me that PvE gets shut down in 2018 if the free version of the game doesn't bring it back to life.
Star Wars Battlefront 2.
It probably doesn't surprise you that this game is in the list but it's also the only game that I didn't buy in this list. I was interested in buying this game but I just got this bad feeling about the game, so I decided not to buy it and wait and see which was a smart thing to do because this game got so much hate! The game itself isn't even that bad, sure some people complain about the campaign being too short or multiplayer being frustrating but that's not that surprising. The whole pay to win situation is what pissed people off so much. The progression towards a new loot box is so slow that it's tempting to pay for loot boxes and that's exactly what the developers want you to do. This is such a shame and it turned a game that could've been good into something that is just not fun to play. Maybe some people have no issues with that but it can ruin a game in my opinion. Nobody wants pay to win in their game, because it destroys multiplayer and creates an even more toxic environment. I don't consider that as fun to play and I honestly don't want to play that. I was interested in this game but after all the complaints and issues that I've heard about I'm glad that I never bought this game. Even now that it's on a big discount I still don't want it. Maybe for the die hard Star Wars fan it's a fun game but for me it's definitely not something that I want to buy or play!
The Sims 4 (for consoles).
I was so happy when the Sims 4 would finally be available for consoles. It took about three years but we finally got the console version, along with all the bugs and glitches the pc version had/has. Does anyone at EA actually test Sims games? I don't think I played a game that had so many bugs and glitches in it that it makes it completely impossible to enjoy playing this game, not even for a day! Yesterday I got a message on my screen saying that I couldn't save the game because one of my sims was turning into a vampire. That was impossible because none of my sims is a vampire nor did they get in contact with one. So what the fuck is up with that?!!! Then there are the sound glitches and huge delays in actions. Sometimes I'm looking at my sims stuck in the same animation for twenty seconds before they actually do the thing I tell them to do. This makes playing the Sims 4 extremely frustrating and absolutely not fun at all! The Sims 4 is a difficult game to enjoy with all these issues and if everything would just be working as it should then the game would be great, but I guess if you never test your game then a lot of these issues just seem to get into the game and players will have to deal with that. Or not! Right now I just refuse to play this game until we finally get a patch that fixes all these issues. It's just ridiculous how so many of the bugs and glitches are in the game, that should've been prevented but I guess it's amateur hour at EA. They're probably too busy trying to cover their own ass with the Star Wars Battlefront 2 situation that they don't realize how they fucked up the Sims 4 for consoles. And the prize for worst developer goes to...honestly do you even need to guess?
Let's hope that 2018 will have better games and less disappointing games. I've played enough of those in 2017!
