Can a game be too spooky?

Happy Halloween, at least if you celebrate that in your part of the world. In my country we don't really celebrate it but it's more popular than it was when I was a kid so who knows maybe in the future we'll have Halloween here as well. I love this time of the year and I really enjoy playing survival horror or other scary games, especially around Halloween. But there is always this moment when I look at a game and wonder if this is going to the game I can't finish because it's just too much for me. So far it hasn't happened but maybe one day I will be so freaked out by a game that I just can't play it. Too scary for me? As a kid I watched horror movies with my parents, my parents didn't realize that but I was super quiet in the back of the living room and they didn't even notice that I was watching. But at night the nightmares would come and of course then I would have to pay for being so foolish to watch those scary movies. These days a lot of t...

I hate Monday: When someone is leeching

Don't you just hate it when you do a lot of work in the game, do your best and try to get a good result or get something done and there is this one person in the match who does absolutely nothing and yet this person gets all the rewards you get for all the things you did. I think that's enough to make most people annoyed at that point but unfortunately it doesn't end there. There are situations where people who did nothing actually get the best reward because the reward system is random and so there's a chance that the person who did nothing gets the best reward. Does that seem unfair? I think it does! Do nothing but get all the rewards? When you look at this this way then I'm actually surprised that there are that many leechers in games. I guess not every game is vulnerable to this kind of behaviour but unfortunately there are some games that suffer greatly under these type of players. I say players but honestly they don't do a thing, so maybe player isn...

Sinful Sunday: You're such a cheater!

Has anyone ever accused you of being a cheater? I bet if they did it was when you won a match, especially if you win with a big score. I guess some people can't handle that they're not as good as they might think they are and then lose to some random person online. Of course it sucks that you lose but that doesn't mean that the other person is a cheater. Too quickly and easily these accusations are being thrown around and it sucks because often the person accused of cheating is actually innocent. Are you a cheater? Nope! I've never used cheats in a multiplayer game, the only two games where I used cheats are both single player games and for one of them it was a one time thing just to see what the cheats would do and for the other one (the Sims) it's just my way to get money faster so I can get better stuff for my house faster. I don't use cheats for multiplayer or other single player games, it's incredibly lame and pathetic to use cheats in a multiplayer...

You're so powerful in this game...or not?

Sometimes developers are trying to make the players aka potential buyers believe that they're going to be so awesome in their game. You get these amazing powers, cool gadgets and you'll be able to do incredible things in the game. But honestly, how powerful are you really in these games? Often when something seems too good to be true then it often is. You're not as powerful as the developers wanted you to believe? I think that counts for most games because developers like to make things look better than they really are. I mean if you try to sell a game and be completely honest then that game will be less interesting, but make things look and sound a bit more awesome then they really are and you have a better chance of making your game look good and you probably sell more copies of that game. The problem is that the players will figure out soon enough how powerful your character is in the game often this results in disappointment, which is nothing new but it still sucks ...

I've stopped playing ranked mode in Overwatch

If you know even the slightest bit about me then you would know that I'm not really into ranked mode, I personally think it's a mode for professional gamers or try hards. I consider myself more of a casual gamer so I doubt I fit into that type of gaming. But it's nice to test your skills sometimes and just try to have fun. This was happening for some time in ranked but now almost a year and a half after Overwatch launched I just can't bring myself to play ranked anymore. What's wrong with ranked mode in Overwatch? It's actually not that bad, but after my experience in season 5 I just couldn't go for season 6. Do you know why? Because the developers, Blizzard, decided to give people a lower ranking than what they would normally get. So as a grand master you could've gotten the master rank, the master ranked player could get the diamond rank and so on. For me as a platinum player that meant that I got kicked to gold which just felt wrong, I did so well...

Bungie needs to stop with the random loot in Destiny 2!

At first I didn't mind the random loot that much, they gave you legendary armor and weapons pretty fast but it's when you try to complete a full armor set when you realize how frustrating this random loot system is. Because you can honestly be screwed over again and again without getting the one piece you need to complete the set. Yeah, that's a lot of fun... It doesn't really matter? Of course I don't need the last part of the armor set but isn't it better to get the full set instead of putting another part in the set that doesn't really look good with it? Maybe I'm just a whiny asshole here but honestly it frustrates me so much that I just can't seem to be able to buy the last part of the set and no matter how many times I earn tokens to buy a legendary engram from Asher I just don't seem to be able to get the Gensym knight leg armor for my warlock. After two weeks of trying every day, which involves doing all the daily challenges and farmi...

What I think Mass Effect could use

Most of us know that Mass Effect Andromeda wasn't as great as we all wanted it to be. Maybe there are some die hard fans that loved it but I think it's safe to say that the majority wasn't too happy with it and I can't blame them. The game had several issues and that definitely made it a rough experience to play the game and trying to enjoy it. So what does this mean? Is this the end for Mass Effect or will we get a new Mass Effect game? Is this a sequel to Mass Effect Andromeda or will the developers make a completely new story? Here is what I think that Bioware should do with the Mass Effect games. Make your own character and story. You're probably yelling at me that you can already create your own character in Mass Effect and you're not wrong, but what I mean is to have absolute control over character creation. So not just human Spectre or Pathfinder but actually pick your own race and your own job or function aboard the ship. I always wanted to play a...

I hate Monday: When someone is rage quitting

There was a time and a place that gamers weren't a bunch of whiny sad sack of shit douchebags, oh I'm not saying that all the gamers are whiny sad sack of shit douchebags but looking at the amount of rage quitters these days you do get the feeling that there are a lot of whiny sad sack of shit douchebags playing games, but unfortunately times change and not always in a good way. Why are there so many rage quitters? Because that's the type of people that are considered as the majority in the world of games? At least if you look at certain game genres. In every first person or third person shooter, sport game, race game and fighting game you have these losers that can't handle the fact that they've been beaten or that things aren't going the way they want to and so they rage quit. Because that's what a baby would do, they would rage quit at the first sign of trouble. Of course it sucks when you lose but if you can't handle losing then maybe you shouldn...

Sinful Sunday: All the hate

When I read the comments under a YouTube video it never takes long to spot a hater. There is always and I really do mean always this one person, often more than just one person, that has to be negative. For a trailer or a new game or movie they will say that it sucks. Why? Oh I don't know, it's not like they let you know why they think it sucks. It's just some random douchebag being a douchebag, I guess you can't betray your own nature. Everything is negative online? Sometimes it feels that way, as if everyone is negative and everyone is just online to hate on eachother. But the fact is that it's not everyone, just a small group that seems big because they're so loud and active online. That actually says a lot about someone, I mean going online every day to check on your negative comments and to respond with more negativity. To be that person that always looks for something to be negative about and always have to be the person that has to ruin the fun. Is th...

Game tip: The Witcher 3

If you're playing games on the Xbox One and you have a gold membership then there's a sweet deal for you, the Witcher 3 game of the year edition (with all the dlc) for twenty Euros! I know that in the past I wasn't too optimistic about this game, I had a bad time with the Witcher 2 so I didn't have much faith in the Witcher 3. But I gave the game a chance last year and it turned out to be one of the best games I've played in a long time! So yeah I can definitely recommend the Witcher 3 to you, especially the game of the year edition for such a cheap price! It's more than just a game? Of course it's a game but at the same time it's so much more! I remember playing the game for the first time and just getting sucked into the story and you just can't stop playing. Imagine Skyrim but then in third person with more mature content and an even better story. That might be hard to imagine but it's true! As Geralt of Rivia you start on a long quest to ...

YouTube adventures -82- Demonetized

I think most people that are active on YouTube would like to earn some money with their channel. We can't all be succesful but I know that there are several people that have become very succesful with their YouTube channel. YouTube was a place where you could almost say and do whatever you wanted, of course nothing too crazy but at least it wasn't some childish bullshit that if you say the word bullshit you could already get... Demonetized! My channel is just a hobby, I earn nothing with this nor do I have the intention to earn money with my channel. But if I did wanted to earn money with it then I know that I would be in a lot of trouble. Mostly because I'm not exactly super friendly in my videos. I will say bad words and I can be quite agressive in some videos. I mean I'm Royal Daemon, if I was such a great guy I would've called myself super duper good dude (or something like that). I would never be able to earn anything with my videos, I mean even if I had th...

Every game needs a loot box?

It seems that almost every game has a loot box system these days. But the purpose of the loot box isn't always the same. In some games it's just for cosmetics and in other games it has game changing elements in it. For example a powerful weapon that will give you a benefit or some bonus experience that lets you level up faster. This might seem harmless but a lot of people aren't happy with this. This raises the question, do we need loot boxes in games? Let's find out! Loot boxes make games better? When I look at a game like Overwatch then loot boxes are pretty cool, you earn one every time you level up and every week you can earn three bonus loot boxes for every three wins in arcade mode. This gives you acces to new cosmetics, for example skins, emotes or sprays. This doesn't hurt the game but it can hurt your wallet quite a bit! But that's only when you decide to buy them, when you don't feel like earning them with leveling up. The loot boxes did have i...

The Evil Within 2, fun and frustration!

Last week I talked about my unfortunately experience with a save bug, it kept me from being able to save the game and eventually made it impossible to play the game. I removed the game from my harddrive and then installed it again, restarted my console and now it seems to work. I honestly hope that was a one time thing because if that happens several times you just don't want to keep playing. Does that make the Evil Within 2 a bad game? No, but the game does have some issues... Open world adventure? One of the big surprises of the Evil Within 2 is that it's an open world, at least for some part. There are parts in the game where you can go where you want to go and pretty much explore that area as much as you want. There are a lot of things to discover and several secrets that can give you a great benefit in the battles later in the game. You can also stumble on some scary moments, for example the singing ghost lady that can be terrifying! I really like how the game allows y...

I hate Monday: When people don't play the objective

Playing a game is fun, but do you know what's not fun? Losing all the time! Especially when you lose and it could've been a win. The main reason you often lose isn't because you or your team mates suck, it's because there are people on your team that aren't playing the objective. They treat every game mode as team deathmatch and try to get as many kills as possible while they totally ignore the objective. Great fun, except you lose these matches and that isn't fun at all! Are they deliberately ignoring the objective? I've often wondered that myself, do these people actually ignore the objective on purpose or are they just really dumb? There's a chance that they're that dumb but most of the time people just ignore the objective, they want to get a lot of kills so their k/d rating stays positive. Yeah because that's important in a first or third person shooter. It doesn't matter what kind of game you play these type of people always seem to...

Sinful Sunday: Breaking the rules

Rules are meant to be broken, at least that's what some people say. Eventhough I have a rebel heart I do like certain rules. I mean it keeps things in order instead of complete chaos. For example when I play a game I like it when there are rules, because without rules it's just complete chaos and I doubt it will be as much fun as some people might think. Rules also keep cheaters away and the cheaters that do try to mess things up are hopefully caught and kicked out. So rules are definitely important, but sometimes just sometimes it can be fun to break the rules. I'm a nice guy? For an angry scumbag I can be incredibly on board with the rules in games and even with the default settings. I hate messing with the settings too much because I always worry that I mess things up too much that it ruins the gameplay. I hardly ever try to exploit a game, sure I'll use a powerful weapon that is probably overpowered but it's usually just to defend myself against other people...

Don't buy the Evil Within 2! (unless you're willing to take the risk)

I wanted type something positive here because I had a lot of fun playing the game yesterday and even this afternoon until the moment happened where the game was in an endless saving circle. The text that the game was saving int the top right corner didn't go away and it stayed that way. This should've already concerned me but I was trying to be optimistic and kept on playing, hoping that the game would fix this issue by itself. Oh how foolish I was to believe that could actually happen. Big surprise, it didn't go away and when I tried to manually save the game I couldn't do anything anymore from that point. The screen froze and I had to restart the game. You know probably from experience what that means while a game is saving, it fucks up your save data and that's exactly what happened. My save data is fucked and now I can't acces it anymore. So whenever I start up the game I get put in an endless loading screen. Yeah great fun... How did this happen? I hone...

YouTube adventures -81- Watching someone else play a game is stupid?

I noticed this video from 2015 where an American talkshow host talks about YouTube gaming channels and how he thinks it's sad and lame to watch someone else play a game. It probably wouldn't surprise you but he got a lot of hate for that. Eventhough I don't agree with giving someone hate for that I do think it's dumb to talk shit about something you don't know much about. Because there are YouTubers out there that have a career with making gameplay or should I say let's play videos. So it's actually quite rude to talk shit about that when you don't even know what you're talking about. Watching someone else play a game is stupid? I didn't watch a lot of videos on YouTube in the early days, YouTube wasn't that big and I didn't really see the worth of it back then. But now it's like a daily thing for me to do, watch some videos and even try to upload some videos myself. Things change and eventhough I don't consider myself to be a...

Overwatch Junkenstein's Revenge, new version is even better?

It's been some time since I last played Overwatch but it's nice that you can jump back into the game and adjust so quickly to the controls and gameplay. Because it's almost Halloween the Halloween event has come back to Overwatch and that means that you can play Junkenstein's revenge again. But things are a bit different this time, there isn't just another boss added, the summoner (dragon skin Symmetra), but there is also another game mode called endless and this is exactly what you would expect with that name, the fun never ends! Neverending game mode? Ok endless ends when all four heroes die or when the door breaks but you can last for a long time if you work well together. I got up to bonus wave 9 yesterday, add the 12 waves you have to do before the bonus waves and I managed to survive for 21 waves which is pretty good if I do say so myself. Of course we played on normal so that kind of makes it a bit less impressive. But don't worry the higher difficult...

Anger doesn't make you better at a game

It's weird how angry you sometimes become at a game or another player because it absolutely serves no purpose and also doesn't help you at all to beat the game or other player. I'd say anger makes you even dumber and thus it becomes even more difficult to beat a game or another player. So the best thing you can do is stay calm and concentrated. Unfortunately most gamers, myself included, do get mad and end up doing even worse in the process. Anger makes things worse? It does actually, because you lose your concentration and you often make dumb decisions when you're angry. Imagine someone camping around the corner and you keep going there to kill this person and he or she just keeps killing you, it makes you mad and you keep rushing there only to die again and again. The same can be said about beating a game, for example a boss you just can't beat or a moment in a level that is just too tough for you. First you become frustrated, then that frustration turns into ...

Sweaty hands on the controller

As a kid I always had sweaty hands on the controller, maybe it was just the way the NES and SNES controllers were or maybe I was just a sweaty nerd. But things changed, I got older and games made me less sweaty and so my hands were no longer sweaty on the controller. Does that mean that games got easier or did I get better? I know that people have different opinions on games and that some would consider older games as harder but lets not forget that there are still new games coming out that aren't that easy! Yesterday I noticed after several years of not having this issues that I had sweaty hands again, the controller almost slipped out of my hands and it made me think back of the good old days. Nobody likes difficult games? Some people seem to claim that  games have gotten easier and perhaps they're right. When I play Destiny 2 I don't feel a challenge, it's only in a Nightfall strike or the raid that you notice the difficulty bumping up. But you don't play tha...

I hate Monday: When a game doesn't work

Imagine this, you just saved up 60 Dollars or Euros and you can finally buy that game you were interested in and then when you finally have it the game doesn't work. For some reason the game won't start, it has a lot of bugs and glitches that make it very frustrating to play or the game keeps freezing when you play it. I think it's safe to say that most people would be upset with that and I don't blame them, I would be very upset as well! Have you ever bought a game that didn't work? Unfortunately yes, this has happened multiple times to me and the most recent game is Agents of Mayhem which is from just a couple of months ago. I've bought games that were broken in the box, which was a really nasty surprise, and I've bought games that seemed ok at first and then turned to shit soon after. It really makes you wonder if people actually test these games because of those bugs that make the game unplayable are really something you would expect the developers t...

Sinful Sunday: Winning, no matter how you do it!

Do you like to win when you play a game? If so then you're probably a bit of a try hard like me, this constant urge to bring everything to the table to get a win. What's worse is how you treat your team mates when things aren't going so well. Of course it's not always someones fault but sometimes it's clearly someones fault and then there are multiple ways of dealing with that, but unfortunately I would often take the least nice way of dealing with that. Then there are all the cheap tricks you can use to try and secure the win, I mean if you don't do it then who will?!!! Winning no matter what? My father raised me to always go for the win, second place is for losers is what I learned. Which is of course dumb when I think of it now but sometimes in the heat of the moment I can be such a try hard at something. I want to win, not always because I think I deserve it but because I want it. It feels good to win and afterwards you can be a dick to your friends and ...

Red Dead Redemption 2, what did the trailer reveal to me?

After seeing the latest trailer I got super excited about this game, I mean seriously it looks so cool and a new protagonist? I'm all for that! It's so cool that he's not some goody two shoes trying to patch things up but actually a criminal that does bad things and shows no remorse. But there is only that much you can get from a trailer and I'm certain there is so much more to learn. That doesn't mean I'm less excited about Red Dead Redemption 2! You don't play as John Marston? A lot of people wanted to play as John Marston in this sequel that is actually a prequel. But in this latest trailer it's revealed that you play as Arthur Morgan, the muscle and debt collector of the Van der Linde gang. Which is cool, because a new character means someone new to get to know and see how he fits in with the rest of the characters. But it's still possible that Arthur is one of multiple playable characters, I wouldn't mind that and as long as the other ch...

YouTube adventures -80- YouTuber vs viewer

There are moments when you get comments that just annoy you, there could be multiple reasons but one of the things that annoys someone would be if they tell lies about you or just try to make you look bad for no real reason other than their own sad motivations. I've seen YouTubers respond to some of these comments and some of them are pretty agressive, which is understandable if someone is spreading lies about you or is just being a big douchebag but isn't it better to ignore these comments? Otherwise you get the... YouTuber vs viewer situation. The benefit of having a small channel is that there aren't a lot of people contacting me, those that do feel the urge to contact me are often trolls or just people that don't understand why I would upload a low quality video. I always try to be patient and friendly, at least up to the point that someone else is also friendly. If someone is insulting me then there is no need to be friendly anymore, but instead of making it a ...

Gone Home, not what I expected but that's not a bad thing!

When I first saw Gone Home I was wondering what kind of game it would be, from the screenshots I got a kind of spooky vibe so I quickly thought that it was some type of survival horror and at times it absolutely feels that way. But Gone Home is a bit different, which is actually not a bad thing and definitely a game you want to play even if it would be only once. Besides it's free for Xbox One gold members, so feel free to check it out if you're interested. Alone in the house? You play as Kaitlin, a young woman who just came home after spending a year in Europe. You arrive in front of an old house and find a note on the door. It's one of many from your younger sister, Samantha, and on these notes you figure out what happened in the year that you were away. These notes aren't just clues but also moments of relief when you hear the voice of Samantha and not the old house noises that can be really freaky at times. The house is huge, so be ready to go on a long walk thr...
