Will virtual pets ever replace real pets?
It started small, these tiny computers that respond to you and that you have to give attention and ´food´ for them to be happy and to keep them ´alive´. You might know these tiny computers as Tamagotchi and for some time they were very popular. But now we´ve moved on to bigger and prettier things, you see beautiful animated creatures on your screen that respond to your voice and your movement in the room. I can´t help but wonder if this will one day replace real pets or will real pets always have a place in our hearts?
Virtual pets are a good altnernative?
It´s not that everyone doesn´t want to have pets, sometimes it´s just impossible for people to have pets when they´re allergic or maybe went through a traumatic experience. Then there is also the problem of not having any room or time for a pet. But if you really want a pet then these virtual versions are a good alternative, of course it´s not the same but it´s better to have something than nothing! Pets don´t discriminate and not matter how you look they´ll care for you, I think that´s the same idea with virtual pets that just want to play and have fun. Which is perfect if that´s what you´re looking for.
Could virtual pets ever replace real pets?
I can´t imagine that, at least not in the near future. Right now people still prefer to have a real pet over a virtual pet, mostly because a real pet is more fun. Unfortunately a real pet also gives you more work, so it´s not for everyone. But that doesn´t stop people from buying a pet, because sitting alone in the house isn´t really fun. Virtual pets can give some people happiness, but I think if you´d ask people that like pets that they would prefer to have a real pet. It´s just that sometimes they don´t have the space or the time for a real pet, which is where the virtual pet can come in handy. I have nothing against virtual pets, I think it´s a good idea that they can help people and make them happy. But I doubt that a virtual pet could ever truly replace a real pet.
