Mature gamers have more trouble making friends online?
With mature gamers I mean people that play mature games, it doesn´t always mean that the person is actually mature. But is it true? Is it more difficult for mature gamers to make friends online? For example in a CoD multiplayer match, is it easy to make friends there? What about in a GTA Online lobby? It seems easy but usually the older you get the more difficult it can become to make new friends. This isn´t just restricted to your every day life, this also counts in the online world.
What makes it so difficult to make friends as a mature gamer?
That really depends on you, maybe you´re a very social guy or girl and it´s easy for you to talk to strangers. But not everyone is like that, some people don´t know other people that play the same games as them and often find themselves alone in multiplayer games. Which is fine for some of them, for example lone wolves in gaming, but others would really like to meet others like them and play games together. Of course that´s easier said than done, because not everyone that you meet online is going to be friendly or interested in playing games with you. I guess it´s the expectation that someone wouldn´t like you or want to play games with you that keeps some people from actually asking someone else to play games with you, but some negative experiences also have their influence on you. It makes it less likely for you to ask someone again if you´ve been through negative experiences, which is a shame because I´m pretty certain there are a lot of people out there looking for other people to play games with.
Mature gamers are more isolated?
That could definitely have something to do with it, because when you don´t go to school anymore and at your work (if you have a job) people are older or don´t like to play games then it might be difficult to meet others that also like to play games. Sure there are sites where you could meet others but is that also a guarantee for succes? I think some people would rather accept that they play games on their own than to take a risk with strangers, which makes sense to me because sometimes it´s fun to play games on your own. It allows you to play in your own pace and you can play the way you want to play. When you play with others it´s usually a bit more restricted, because you can´t always play the way you want to play. But to break the isolation you´ll have to talk to people, plug in your microphone and talk. That doesn´t mean be an annoying douchebag online, but try to be helpful and assist others if you can. Not everyone will appreciate that but if that only gets you one friend then it has already worked! It´s no guarantee though, but staying silent won´t help you with making new friends...
