Developers take advantage of the season pass?
Perhaps this isn´t news for you but I always hoped that the season pass was a way to keep a game longer alive. To introduce new parts of the story or new characters into the game. In some cases it could even allow you to see the full potential of the game, for example when developers wanted to release the game sooner and put the stuff they couldn´t add into the game with dlc. But that´s the positive way of looking at it, the other side is a bit less positive where it´s about earning money on things that could´ve been put into the game but are deliberately left out so they could earn extra money on it.
But you save money with the season pass, right?
Yes you save money if you buy the season pass instead of buying each piece of dlc separately. But when you think that this dlc could´ve been part of the game and then it wouldn´t have cost you anything extra then I can´t help but feel that developers are trying to get more money out of people. As if games aren´t expensive enough you also need to pay extra for dlc. Oh sure you don´t have to pay for that but it´s a bit lame if important parts of the story or the story continues in the dlc, which means if you played the game it feels like you´re missing out if you don´t get the dlc with the missing parts in the story or how the story will continue.
You don´t have to buy the dlc, so what´s the problem?
It´s true you don´t have to buy anything, but when you think of a game then you expect certain things to be in the game and not leave certain things deliberately out so you have to pay extra if you want that also in the game. It sickens me that this is how it works now, if you want the full game you have to pay extra otherwise move on to another game and expect the same shit there. Maybe some people aren´t bothered by this but it´s insane that so many games have dlc now, I used to be happy about that but since you have to pay for most of that dlc it´s just crazy how much money you spend on one game these days!
So dlc should be for free?
I don´t think that´s going to happen, but it would be nice if you sometimes get things for free instead of having to pay for so many things. Oh you want this new character in a fighting game? Well you have to pay. The developers could´ve easily put that character in the game from the start, but it´s better for them to do it with dlc that you have to pay for which earns them more money. The same counts for games that introduce their season pass convincing you to buy it because great things await you! Half of the time you don´t even know what you´ve bought but apparently that´s how it works. If I have to be honest with you I wish that developers would take an extra year on game development and have everything in the game, instead of adding extra stuff with dlc that you have to pay for. But that´s probably asking for too much...
