Gamers believe in superstition?
Well maybe not in your typical black cat or walking under a ladder business, but more the type of things they do before they start playing or sometimes even while they´re playing games. It probably won´t surprise you that this is more common among professional players, for example for a championship match or to qualify for a tournament. This doesn´t have to be a big procedure, sometimes it´s just a small thing but that can make all the difference for that person!
Superstition is dumb?
I guess it is, because it´s silly to think you could change the outcome of something by doing something else or something different. But let´s not forget that getting some reassurance helps you, so is that dumb? I don´t think so! Whatever helps you prepare or make you feel better is good for you, even if some people might laugh at that. It doesn´t matter what other people say or think, if it helps you then that´s all that matters. Perhaps it is silly but never underestimate the power of your confidence, if you can boost that with something then that´s a good thing.
Does it actually help?
That´s difficult to say, I guess it helps in a way that it can give you more confidence and that´s definitely worth something. The problem is that it can also work against you, for example something goes wrong with your little ritual or maybe you forgot that special item you always carry with you before a match. This could ruin you, so it´s probably a good idea not to put too much faith in that. Remember that it´s still you and that you make it happen, but every little bit that can help you with that is of course welcome. There is nothing wrong with being a bit superstitious, but don´t let it control you!
Do people admit being superstitious?
Usually not, probably because some people make fun of others that believe in superstition. But I´ve heard stories where people admit having something with them that brings them luck, this object could be anything but it´s usually small enough to carry it around. It could be a piece of clothing, a coin, jewelry and sometimes it´s just a thought. A thought? For example a lucky number, that´s not a thing but more the thought that a certain number brings you luck. Some people feel comfortable sharing with others what gives them comfort, which could be something superstitious. But let´s not forget that some people are so superstitious that they fear losing their luck if they tell anyone what brought him or her luck. So don´t be surprised if some people are secretive about certain things, especially if it´s about what makes them succesful.
