Looking back at.....GTA Vice City!

After GTA III I was really exicted about GTA Vice City, not only did this take place in the 80´s but it also has a main character that speaks (the main character in GTA III doesn´t say one word the entire game). With the music and look of the 80´s it felt quite unique at that time, especially since you could go where you want to if you didn´t feel like doing the (story) missions. It probably won´t surprise you that this is one of my favourite GTA games!

You´re the star!

You play as Tommy Vercetti, a mobster that escaped a drug deal gone bad. Instead of going home you stay and build your own little slice of heaven. Of course this doesn´t go without mistakes or problems but eventually you can become quite powerful! You get the help of your partner in crime Lance Vance. In a way you´re the Miami Vice duo of crime in GTA Vice City, at least I couldn´t help but get that feeling from this game. The good thing about this game is that you´re not just a drone that does things for others, you actually build your own criminal empire and become the boss yourself. This is something you didn´t see in GTA III and with the voice of Ray Liotta you know that Tommy is a memorable character!

The 80´s vibe.

If you´re old enough to remember the 80´s or you see music videos from the 80´s then you can get an idea of what that was like. GTA Vice City gave you that 80´s feeling with the music and look, which is actually a lot of fun when you like the 80´s. It probably wouldn´t surprise you that you see some 80´s movies/series influences as well, for example from Miami Vice and Scarface. That made it even more fun to play for those that actually recognize these parts, but even if you don´t it´s still a lot of fun to play!

Freedom!

No I´m not talking about Braveheart, I´m talking about the freedom you have to do what you want. You don´t have to do missions all the time, you can explore and go crazy if you want to. This isn´t something new, GTA III also offers you that, but that doesn´t make it less fun. Also having motorcycles in the game is an improvement, sure you´re more vulnerable but it looks a bit cooler when you go in guns blazing on a motorcycle! Of course the latest GTA game, GTA V, is much more impressive but that doesn´t mean that GTA Vice City isn´t worth checking out. Especially if you haven´t played this game, it´s a lot of fun to play and if you do choose to play the story missions then you´re in for a treat because it´s a good story!
