Sinful Sunday: Having feelings for a character from a game
It might seem silly to some people but it actually happens, people that are attracted to characters from a game. Maybe it´s the outfit that character wears, maybe it´s the voice, maybe it´s the skills and there is also a chance it´s a combination of all of that! Is it weird? Probably, but it´s not forbidden.
Why are some people attracted to a character from a game?
I guess you could say why are some people attracted to other people? Well there are several things that can be responsible for that but when you´re attracted to another person there usually aren´t any questions asked, it´s biology and nobody will consider you weird for being attracted to another person. But when you say you´re attracted to a character from a game it´s weird, because that person isn´t real and you could never be in a relationship with that character. Perhaps that doesn´t even matter, some people just like the idea of someone or something out there with whom they have a great time. For most people that means spending time with a person, but for some people that means playing a certain game to spend time with a certain character. In a way it´s not that different from a relationship with a person, you´re happy to be with that person and in the game it´s pretty much the same idea. Except that will probably be a bit less intimate, well some games allow you to fool around with some characters but I don´t know if you can really call that intimacy.
So it´s just feelings?
Sometimes, but there are also people that are sexually attracted to a character and get aroused from a certain character. I think this counts more for men than for women but I wouldn´t say that women are immune here, perhaps they hide it just a bit better. I´ve heard stories where people would want their partner to dress up as their fantasy character and then have sex, which seems a bit ridiculous to me but if your partner is ok with that and it makes you both happy then who cares what other people think or say. This doesn´t just count for game characters, it can also be movie or comic related.
Is it weird to have such feelings for a fictional character?
That questions isn´t as easy as you might think, perhaps you think that it´s easy to say that it´s weird but is it? To have feelings for someone is natural but if you have these same feelings for something that isn´t a person then it´s weird? Of course it´s unusual but if someone is happy with his or her feelings for a fictional character then that´s not necessary a bad thing. Maybe it´s just a phase someone goes through, perhaps after a break up or a long period of being single. Then you can find comfort in other things and if that helps your process your current situation then that´s not a bad thing. I would suggest that you keep these feelings to yourself, because I doubt that everyone will understand that. You don´t control your feelings, so don´t feel too weird for having feelings for a fictional character. But hopefully you do realize that it´s impossible to have a real relationship with a fictional character, so if you´re looking for a real relationship then sooner or later you´ll have to move on to a real person.
