Sinful Sunday: Killing someone in a game is bad?
In my opinion it sounds worse than it is, killing someone in a game. But what does that mean exactly? You control a character in a game and someone else controls a character in the game, then your character (which is under your control) kills the character of someone else (controlled by another player). Is that really a bad thing? Does this make people violent or more dangerous? Would it be better if you could only kill NPCs? Let´s find out!
Killing someone in a game isn´t really killing someone?
That´s right, you don´t really kill someone and by killing someone in a game the other person has a respawn and can get back in the game and has his or her revenge. In real life there is no such thing, dead is dead! Which is exactly my point here, it´s a game and it´s meant to be fun. If you don´t understand what´s fun about shooting eachother in a game then you clearly don´t like first person shooters and that´s quite alright, we all have our own type of favourite game and you shouldn´t play games you don´t like. Killing someone in a game isn´t real, you´re not really hurting someone and the intention of the game is for fun and not ruining someones life.
So liking first person shooters doesn´t make you a bad person?
If you play first person shooters just for fun then I don´t see why that would make you a bad person, but if you use first person shooters to help fulfil a sick fantasy of really killing people then that´s of course not a good thing! As violent as some games might be there is never the intention of actually convincing people to hurt other people, it´s all meant to be fun and as difficult as that might be for some people to understand that´s the main reason why most people play these type of games. Which is also why it´s stupid that certain games are banned because they could have a bad influence, so everyone has to be punished because a couple of idiots could potentially become a threat because of a game? That doesn´t seem fair to me and there must be a better solution against this, for example don´t make it easy for people to get weapons. Because without weapons it´s more difficult for certain people to cause harm. Also games don´t make people violent, violent people are usually born that way or something in their life happened that turned them more violent. I´m not saying that games don´t affect people but they don´t turn a normal person into an agressive person.
It´s better to kill NPCs instead of people in games?
In Titanfall they actually have multiplayer matches with players and NPCs, it´s six against six with a lot of NPCs running around as well. From what I heard most people didn´t like that, people want to play against people and not against NPCs. But it´s good practice, I like to play against bots before I play in a match against people. This helps me get into the game and I´m ready to go! But getting back to the point of killing people or NPCs in games I´d say that it doesn´t really matter, no matter what you do in a game it´s in a game and it´s not real. Sure some people might respond hostile to you killing them in the game but emotions sometimes get high in certain games, which is understandable but that doesn´t exactly make it acceptable. Usually because of the response and/or behaviour of other players some players prefer to play single player games or play multiplayer games with and/or against bots. I don´t think it really matters but bots usually don´t give you shit, but that doesn´t mean that there won´t be any bullshit in the game!
