Evolve (closer look)
Have you played the game Evolve? It´s a game where you play as one of four hunters or as the monster. It´s not that difficult to figure out what you need to do, the hunters try to kill the monster as fast as they can and the monster tries to reach stage 3 (by eating a lot of creatures in that area) and then kill the hunters or destroy the power relay to win. As a hunter you can have three other people with you in the team or play with three bots, as the monster you´re on your own and you have to play it smart or else the hunters will annihilate you!
So it´s just a 4 against 1 game?
You wouldn´t give the game enough credit if you described it like that but yes it does come down to that idea. But that´s hunt mode, in other modes you still have the 4 against 1 situation but with often different objectives or alternative objectives to help you win. For example in nest mode the hunters have to destroy eggs and monsters that hatched from those eggs while the monster has to protect the eggs and can even hatch eggs to get some monster support. As a hunter you can win if you destroy all eggs and hatched monsters or the big monster, the monster can win by keeping at least one egg or hatched monster alive until time runs out or by killing all hunters. There are also other game modes like rescue (where the hunters have to revive and escort civilians to a dropship while the monsters tries to kill them) and defend (where the hunters have to protect power relays against monster attacks and the monster has to try and destroy the power relays with the help of some smaller monsters).
Is it more fun to be a hunter or the monster?
It´s definitely fun to be the monster, especially when you´re good at it because destroying a group of hunters is a lot of fun! You can even go so far where you can eat the hunters or sneak kill one of them. But it´s sometimes also annoying, for example when you try to feed and hunters keep shooting you so you can feed or when you try to evolve and the hunters are constantly there shooting you (when you evolve into a stronger monster you´re vulnerable). Being a hunter is also a lot of fun, especially if you play the right role. For example if you like dealing damage then I can advice that you play as the assault but if you like to heal then it makes more sense that you play as the medic. But it´s interesting to try out different classes, maybe you like being the trapper and play a huge part in taking the monster down or play as the support and play an important role to surviving a confrontation with the monster. So far I´ve had more fun playing as a hunter (especially as the assault) mostly because I had more succes with that, but playing as a monster can be a bit more challenging but it´s still a lot of fun!
What makes this game so much fun to play?
For me it´s been unlocking all characters and monsters, you can do this by earning the first star in the challenges for a certain character and that will unlock the character that comes after him or her. But also the maps that seem to change a lot, for example on one map you´re in a bog and on the other map you´re in rocky environment. Achievements/trophies are also a good way to keep yourself busy, a lot of them you can earn in solo mode (which means it´s just you with bots) so that makes certain achievements/trophies a bit easier while others can still be difficult to get. Unfortunately it´s not all good because sometimes the A.I. can be dumb, for example the trapper not releasing the arena (to trap the monster) in time or the support bombing the wrong spot, but usually they do play their parts. What´s frustrating is that sometimes they´ll wander off and that can be deadly for them and the group, when someone in your team dies then they´ll be back after some but if you team is wiped out before that character is back in the game then it´s still game over. As a monster you have a benefit that it´s just you against them, but the hunters usually don´t make the mistake to separate when you play as the monster (unless you lure one or two away from the rest). If you have friends that also play this game then I can definitely advice you to play this game with them because it´s even more fun with friends, wether you´re all hunters or one of you is the monster. So feel free to give it a try if you haven´t done so already.
