Looking back at.....Samurai Warriors!
Have you ever played one of the Dynasty Warriors games? If you liked those games then you´re going to like the Samurai Warriors games as well! The big difference is that Dynasty Warriors takes place in China in the three kingdoms period while Samurai Warriors takes place in Japan in the Sengoku period. It´s mostly hack and slash in levels that represend a battlefield but if you pay attention you might actually learn something as well!
History as it should be.
I like History, but sometimes it can be boring and then it can be rough to learn. So what makes it more fun to learn? A game where you play in a certain time period and can kick ass! Eventhough it´s mostly hack and slash it´s still fun and easy to play, of course you can make it more difficult by raising the difficulty but since the AI in these games is attrocious you might not want to make it too hard on yourself because you´ll have to do almost everything in these games. What´s also fun in games like Samurai Warriors is that you can take your own spin on history, what if a certain person didn´t die or another person would succeed with his or her plans? Then that would change things and in Samurai Warriors you can find out what would happen in certain situations. For example what would happen if Nobunaga Oda would´ve survived the incident at Honnoji? You can find out in this game, of course that´s all speculation but good fun for everyone that has an interest in history and the what if possibilities!
Easy to learn.
Samurai Warriors isn´t a difficult game, I´d say if you can press buttons then you already have a good chance to succeed in this game. Of course some battles are a bit tougher and it will require you to respond quickly or else you´ll make it harder on yourself. The hack and slash action on the battlefield is a bit repetitive but it´s still a lot of fun, it´s a good way to blow off some steam and unwind a bit if you´ve had a long day at school or work. The violence isn´t that extreme, you´re mostly just hitting other characters (without blood or seeing people badly wounded) and when they´re defeated they disappear, so it might be an interesting game for your kids and the controls make it easy for them to learn and have fun with.
The characters.
The characters in Samurai Warriors are a bit diverse, some are interesting while others are absolutely insane! But that does allow people to pick something different than guy with sword or guy with spear, which is a good thing because the diverse characters actually make it worth playing with different characters. It´s especially a good idea to play as different characters when they´re part of a different clan, which gives you a new insight on the story and it might eventually lead to a different ending. This way you keep the game interesting and you also keep the fun in the game a bit longer. So if you like hack and slash games then this game might be something for you, if you like a bit more tactics in a game then I´d suggest picking up Kessen III or Samurai Warriors 2 Empires.
