Resident Evil Revelations 2 (Raid mode)
Last time I talked about Resident Evil Revelations 2 I wasn´t that positive, I´m not saying that it´s a bad game but it´s definitely not an improvement of the first and that´s a shame because Resident Evil Revelations is a good game. So what about raid mode in Resident Evil Revelations 2? Well let´s find out!
What type of raid mode is this?
This raid mode is actually a lot like the raid mode in Resident Evil Revelations, but this time there´s a bit of a story tied to it. You play as a test subject for the Red Queen (the one that keeps you locked up) and you have to survive challenges (faces multiple enemies in arenas) to make it to the next one. Each time you finish a series of 6 missions you complete a gauntlet, in episode one you´ll have acces to the first three gauntlets so that´s a total of 18 missions on normal, 18 on hard and 18 on very hard. You´ll first have to unlock the missions by getting a certain amount of medals, these medals are based on your actions in the mission. For example did you kill all enemies, did you use any herbs, are you on the recommended level or lower, did you complete the mission and if you get all of those medal you get a medal for doing all that.
Bigger, better and boring?
You get several interesting characters from the start, all playable characters except Natalia, and you can pick with whom you want to play. You level up each character on its own so if you reach level 20 with Barry and haven´t played with Claire then she stays on level 1. But you can play in splitscreen mode and your friend can then play as one of your characters and he or she will then level that one up for you while you play as your character. So it definitely pays of to play with a friend. You can also buy a character (Wesker) and get a character for free with the season pass (Hunk). This raid mode seems to work a bit more smooth and the gestures are hilarious. But something that kind of bothered me was how a lot of areas from old Resident Evil games are used and I´m not talking about interesting areas. Don´t be surprised to see Resident Evil 6 areas and areas from Resident Evil Revelations. Maybe in later episodes you also get acces to more interesting areas but that still remains to be seen!
Is it fun to play raid mode?
Sure it´s fun, if you play solo then that should keep you busy for some time and if you want to unlock everything then it will definitely keep you busy for quite some time! But since it can be a bit repetitive, for example playing the same levels again on a higher level or with a different character can be a bit boring after some time. So it´s probably a good idea to play with a friend, the smartest thing would be to play in splitscreen mode so you can level up two character at once. But you can also play online with a friend, so it doesn´t require someone sitting next to you! With each new episode you get new raid levels so that´s a good thing, hopefully those will be a bit more interesting and hopefully also with some new characters. So far I´m enjoying raid mode and it´s a nice distraction from the main story.
