Youtube fame or shame
A lot of people put videos on youtube, some of those videos are about gaming. Not all of these videos get that much attention but there is always a fresh supply of new videos. Most of the time these are either let´s play videos or a montage of someone doing something in a game. With the heavy supply of gaming videos there isn´t enough demand to watch all of them, which sometimes means that people have funny or interesting videos that no one sees. Which is a shame, but it´s just the way things go. But if you look closely to the videos you see on youtube I can´t help but wonder if it´s a fame or shame game. Because a lot of people post videos hoping to get a lot of views because of their skills in the video or how they ridicule other people online.
I like some youtubers, they make funny videos and some of them actually put a lot of work into making them. But then again the videos I watch often get more than enough attention, but what about the small fish in the big youtube ocean? Is it worth watching those videos? I can´t say, there are just too many videos to watch them all and I don´t think anyone could or would do that. Personally I´m not a fan of a montage, especially if it´s something about bragging how good you are or to make other people look bad. I actually don´t like people who want to show how good they are at the expense of others, if you think that´s what gaming is about then you clearly don´t know anything about gaming!
Gaming is a hobby, something you do for fun and where you have fun playing games. Of course you want to perform well in an online match, you want to win and get nice rewards. There is nothing wrong with that, but when that´s all that counts and the only real reason why you play games then I think you´ve got a problem. Some people actually make videos of their succes, which is nice if you do it right but some people like to make it look as if they´re the best and other people are terrible at a game. Putting these attrocities on youtube is just insult after injury, because nobody wants to be in one of those videos. Unfortunately there is very little you can do about that, well you could just play offline games...
Fame is something else that attracts the worst of the worst, today I saw another video of a well known youtuber and constantly he´s under attack when he´s in a GTA V session. It´s just annoying to see how he constantly gets killed by a group of random people that go out of their way to make certain that everyone can see how much of a douchebag he or she is. We´ve actually come this far that we don´t just make videos humiliating other people, no now we also seem to appear in other videos ruining the fun of others. Is this what the future of gaming is? I mean I´m disgusted by people who behave so hostile towards others for no reason at all, I understand frustration but this need to ruin the fun of others goes beyond me. Some people would say that this is just the way things are, but I wonder how the hell did we ever get here? At what point was it ok to be an asshole online and ruin the fun of others?
I wonder how it will be for the new consoles, will this create more monsters in the gaming community or will these new machines create some order in the chaos? It´s difficult to say, because in the end it´s people that behave like this and a new console can´t do much about that. Youtube is just another way for people to express themselves, both for good and for bad. It´s just the trick to find the good ones out there and ignore the bad ones!
