Call of Duty Ghosts
I don´t think I´ve ever heard so many people speak with hate about a game they haven´t even played, but then again prejudice is one of the more popular gamer sins. Personally I don´t give a fuck about what someone else thinks, if I like a game then that´s enough for me and I hope other people feel the same way about it. Don´t let others tell you what you should and shouldn´t like, just play what you like! With that being said, let´s get busy with analyzing this game!
Why should I play the campaign? A lot of players that play Call of Duty games, but also other games, don´t bother with the campaign and go straight to multiplayer or zombie mode. That´s because they´re also available from the start, well things are a bit different in CoD Ghosts! Because now you first have to complete the campaign before you can play extinction mode, this is a new mode where you face aliens and where you and up to three other players have to do missions while you survive waves of enemies. It´s actually pretty cool and even if you don´t like to play the campaign then this would be a good motivation to do so ayway. But the campaign is actually nice, I love Riley and it´s cool to see him in action. Also there is no lack of action and suprises, so in my opinion you don´t have to go through several hours of boredom. It´s fun and definately worth playing, it´s also a good way to get used to the new lean tactic and some sliding. Of course you can dive directly into multiplayer and don´t look back, but you´ll be missing out on a lot of fun in the campaign and of course the awesome extinction mode! Oh and just so you know, you have to install the campaign on your harddrive. You get an extra disc that you have to install, so I hope you´ve got some space on your harddrive for that after GTA V.
Squad mode, what´s that? Squad mode is where you can make your own squad, you can customize your characters and even give them roles within you squad. The more squad points you earn the more characters you can customize in your squad. You also unlock weapons and perks this way, by earning squad points. You earn these with leveling and you´ll need them if you want to get better things. You can play against bots but also against other players. Of course you can also have friends in your squad that will replace your bots, so don´t worry if you think you´re all alone there. You can customize your the name of your squad and where there base is. This base can then be attacked by other players, this means that another squad can attack yours when you´re offline. They´ll fight then on the map you selected and in the mode you selected. I haven´t tried it yet but I think you can also earn experience when you´re offline if someone challenges your squad. You can also play safeguard, which is a type of survival where you need to survive several waves of enemies. Squad mode is a good way to level up some of your characters and explore new maps and try new modes like cranked where you have 30 seconds to kill someone before you blow up. Most maps are for fast gameplay, but I´ve played some bigger maps as well and that offers a bit of a different tactic to win. It´s a bit different then I´m used to in Black Ops 2 but it´s definately fun!
So what is this extinction mode? As I mentioned before, you need to first unlock extinction mode by finishing the campaign. Then you´ll see it in the main menu and you can play online or local, whatever you feel like doing. Here you must also level up to unlock new classes and skills, you level up by killing aliens and destroying hives. A hive is this disgusting big thing that you need to drill in, this drill will do most of the work but you have to protect it. You can see on the left side of your screen how much health the drill has and how much more it needs to drill before it´s done. Team work is a must here, because you´ll be completely overrun if you play solo or when you don´t work together. I´m certain some of you might make it far, but really this is a mode for working together with others and not some lone wolf shit. With different classes you can help your team better as you have a damage dealer, a tank, an engineer and a healer. All of these classes help out the team, of course the healer the most as this is someone that will be very useful later on in the missions when things go crazy! You get extra skills by choosing them in the loadout screen before you start the match. Pick your skills carefully because it can make the difference. You can activate skills with money, this money is something you earn by killing enemies or what you can find once you´ve destroyed a hive. You also have challenges with every hive, completing this will earn you an extra skills point that you can use to boost your abilities and skills. You do this in the game so be careful when you do this or you´ll be attacked when you´re busy with that!
Multiplayer is just the same? Well yes and no, because you do have the same type of maps out there but there are still new things I can mention. For example you can peek around a corner and take shots at enemies without reveal yourself completely, this comes in handy when someone is not aware of your presence and you can get him or her with suprise. Also you can slide, this allows you to suprise and enemy and even help you evade his bullets. So far I haven´t seen many people use it with succes but we all need to get used to this, I´m certain in time it will be a good way to evade bullets. The new game mode cranked is awesome, you get a timer on you the moment you kill someone and that means you have to kill an enemy before time runs out (which is 30 seconds). Remember that the others have the same issue and that will create some chaotic but fun gameplay. Campers get a hard time on a big map because sitting still isn´t the best strategy here, so for all you camper haters this might be just something for you. Just remember that on smaller maps there will be people camping in the middle, so it´s not completely camper proof! There are also new modes where you need to collect dog tags to get players back in the game, I haven´t played this yet so I can´t tell you much about it. But it does show that there is improvement and new things to explore, so you might have a familiar feeling but there is still plenty of new things to explore. The new marksman rifles are awesome, but also a bit difficult if you´re not used to that. But for all the FAL lovers you´ll find these type of weapons to be quite enjoyable! Also some weapons have attachments on them from the start, like a silencer for example. The perks system works with points you can distribute among several types of styles. For example if you move around a lot you´ll prefer to have more points in movement but the stealthy types prefer to have more points in stealth. Of course you can also mix things up, to have a type of allrounder. The new killstreaks also look awesome, the maniac is where you have better armor (so it takes more shots for you to die) and you get a knive. With increased speed and instant kills with your knives you can be a real menace on the battlefield. I know I´ve made a lot of people mad with that, but you do need to get a ten killstreak to activate it so it´s not like everyone can get it. One of my favourite new killstreaks is the guard dog, he´ll bark when enemies are near and even attack enemies that shoot you or are about to attack you. I´ve seen that dog save my life several times, eventhough sometimes he dies quickly I´ve had times where he was with me most of the match. Even saw the guard dog make a kill almost across the map when a sniper was shooting me. The guard dog rushed towards him and killed him with one bite, pretty cool if I say so myself!
Is it worth buying? If you´re a fan of fast multiplayer action, if you like to have a diversity of skills and customization options then you´ve found a good game in Call of Duty Ghosts. There is plenty to do and you can do this alone with bots or with friends and strangers, whatever you like you can do it. Sure the maps are not as big as in Battlefield 4 and yes the building won´t come crashing down, but this game doesn´t want to be Battlefield 4 because this game just wants you to have fun. And fun is what you get when you play this game, so far I haven´t found much to complain about and usually I´m someone that can find the things that annoy you in a game. Looking at the amount of fun I´ve had in the game so far I can say that it´s worth buying it, if not then you can always rent it and check it out for yourself.
