Xbox One Slim and Project Scorpio
Microsoft didn't have one new console to show you, there are actually two new consoles coming! This is quite odd and I must admit that I didn't expect that at all, but then again surprises are nice. At least sometimes...
What is the Xbox One Slim?
The Xbox One Slim (aka Xbox One S) is a much smaller version of the Xbox One that runs games a bit smoother, if you wonder how much smaller it is then it's almost half the size of the Xbox One (it's 40% smaller) and yet it works even better? That seems like a good deal, right? Well that depends, because there's another console coming and this one is a lot more powerful!
What is project Scorpio?
Project Scorpio is the name of the development process of the new Xbox One console, as weird as this seems the Xbox One already gets an upgrade and this console is no joke! Project Scorpio (I name the new console this to keep it simple) is four times more powerful than the Xbox One, which means that it's capable of some amazing things! For example you can play VR games on this console and you can play games in 4K. In normal language that means that you get some amazing graphics and performances in games, so that's a good thing. Right? Well maybe not...
What is the problem with these new consoles?
First of all the first console pretty much means nothing when you hear about the second console, because who would want to buy the Xbox One Slim when you can buy Project Scorpio next year? Maybe you have money burning in your pocket but I think most gamers want to spend their money on something good and not on the first thing they think is cool. Ok maybe some people actually do that but I think most people won't spend their money that quickly on something, especially when they know something bigger and better is coming out soon. But even if you do save up for project Scorpio then you will have to keep in mind that you need a lot of money, I bet the console will be very expensive, and you need a 4K tv (also quite expensive). So you have to ask yourself who will be able to buy this new console, because your average gamer might be in over his or her head! There is no price yet for project Scorpio (the Xbox One S will be 299 Dollars/Euros) but when you get something fancy like that then you can imagine that the price will be higher than normal, so a console of 600 Dollars/Euros seems believable to me! But my main issue with these new consoles is pretty simple. I only have my Xbox One for two years, why the hell are there already new consoles?!!!
The new consoles are available too soon?
I can't help but feel this way, because I hardly have some dust on my Xbox One and already the new consoles are knocking on your front door. Which is nice but at the same time I feel like Microsoft is trying to drain more money out of you. Was anyone unhappy with their Xbox One? Because I had no complaints, I actually have fun playing games on my Xbox One. Sure it's not as powerful as the Playstation 4 but who cares? I didn't feel the need to have a more powerful console, but now with the new consoles that might be necessary.
You need to buy the new consoles to be able to play Xbox One games?
Not really, for as far as I heard you can play the new games (also the old games) on your old Xbox One console and on the Xbox One Slim and project Scorpio. At least that's what they're saying now, but I wouldn't surprise me that eventually you need to have project Scorpio to be able to play the latest games. Especially when you look at games that require VR goggles, so you would need to have project Scorpio for that because the other consoles don't work with that! So it's probably just a matter of time until the Xbox One games are made more for project Scorpio instead of the (old) Xbox One and Xbox One Slim. This will take time of course, in 2017 it shouldn't be a problem and maybe even 2018 is still good for Xbox One and Xbox One Slim gamers but eventually project Scorpio will be the main focus and games will be made for that console specifically and that means that the other Microsoft consoles are left in the dust. So if you plan to buy a new console then remember that you should think about the future, which means project Scorpio might be a safe bet but unfortunately it will also be an expensive investment. Hopefully it will all work out and make the future for Xbox One gamers better, not that I was complaining...
