Vampyr, finally a good vampire game?
When you think of it there aren't a lot of vampire games, games where you play as a vampire, and the vampire games that are there aren't really that great. At least most recent games, because if you dive deeper into the world of games and go further back you do find some good vampire games. For example Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines which is still my favourite vampire game. But now Dontnod Entertainment (yes you know those people that made the beautiful game Life is strange) are making Vampyr, a game where you play as a vampire that has recently been turned into a vampire.
What kind of vampire are you?
Well that's the good part, you get to decide what kind of vampire you want to be. So if you want to become a killing machine you can concentrate on the instinct skill tree and become a good fighter and excellent killer. But if you prefer to use stealth then you can use the shadow skill tree and sneak around and kill people without anyone realizing that you just killed someone. Then there is the mesmerize skill tree that allows you to manipulate and control people, which helps you get blood more easily when you can convince people to come with you to a dark corner so you can drain their blood. You play as Jonathan Reid, a doctor who has recently been turned into a vampire and still doesn't really know what that means and what you can do as a vampire. But you learn while playing and of course unlock new skills.
Be the monster or not?
Eventhough you're a vampire it doesn't mean that you give in to your primal instincts, you still make decisions who your victim will be. This choice will have an impact on the game, for example if you kill the father of a boy then this boy will end up running away since both his parents are dead now and you might have just sealed his fate as well. But you can also go into the hospital, where you work as a doctor, and use one of the patients there to get some blood. But you can also try to help people and heal them, which does good things for your morality. If you behave like a monster then this will turn you into one as well, so you might want to be careful what you're doing in this game! You get dialogue options in conversations so you can pick what you want to say and that might influence conversations quite a lot, so be a dick and people won't help you or want to talk with you anymore or you can be a charmer and lure people to their doom. It all depends on what you want to do or say in this game!
Why is this a good vampire game?
Ok I don't know if this game will be good but so far I'm really interested, because it doesn't concentrate on just fighting but also the moral decisions and actually trying to blend in. Which makes things a lot more interesting when you just go from area to area fighting people or other monsters. Of course there is fighting in this game, for example there are vampire hunters that will try to kill you. But there are also a lot of characters with whom you can talk and that will influence the game, hopefully in such a way that it's worth playing this game multiple times for different endings. So far Vampyr looks good to me and I can't wait to see more and eventually play the game myself!
