Achievements make your (gaming) life better?

Have you ever had a horrible day? Well I know that I have, wether it was a day at school, work or just a bad day at home. It seems like nothing can go right and things go from bad to worse. Playing games can be a nice distraction or a good way to unwind after a bad day at school or work but what if bad things keep happening there? Are you ready to throw your computer or console out the window? Don't do that! What really helps me feel better is getting achievements, especially the more difficult ones or the ones that require pure luck to get. It might seems silly but getting an achievement means that things aren't so bad and you've got proof that it's not so bad.

Achievements make you feel better?

Yes, trophies make you feel better as well. But what makes getting achievements/trophies so special? Well it's that little positive thing that happens in your life that says, hey you did good there! Ok some achievements are super easy and I can't imagine that this makes someone who is depressed or stressed instantly feel better but getting the more difficult ones or rare ones feels pretty good. Even if you're the only one who sees the value in that and considers it really as an accomplishment, it still helps you feel better. Even if it only helps a little bit, that's still a bit more than nothing! Unfortunately there is a dark side to achievement/trophy hunting, which is not getting achievements or trophies no matter how hard you try.

Achievement/trophy hunting makes you feel worse?

How is that possible? It's pretty simple, it's when you can't get achievements/trophies no matter how hard you try. Not only is that annoying it can also make you feel even worse, so if you're already feeling bad then that can make you feel worse. So trying to get achievements/trophies to help you feel better can actually make things worse, so it's smart to stick to games where achievements/trophies are easy to get. Unless you can take the disappointment of not getting achievements/trophies, but it's smart to stick to what works best for you. You can go for the high risk high reward, but the chance of not getting one is also bigger so you might want to reconsider if you need something positive in your life instead of more disappointment. But that doesn't mean that achievement/trophy hunting is a bad idea, it's something you can do to help you feel better and even if it doesn't make you feel better it's at least distracting you of the bad day you're having!
