Fallout 4 dlc, a bit of a disappointment?
After Automatron, Wasteland Workshop and Far Harbor we now get three more dlc packages for Fallout 4. The first new dlc pack is Contraptions Workshop (now available), the second new pack is Vault-Tec Workshop and the last one is Nuka World. Once again it's a lot of building dlc and I have to admit that I'm not so happy with that, because as much fun building can be it's kind of lame that at least half of the dlc are these small dlc building packs that don't contribute much to the story at all. I understand that it can't all be like Far Harbor but just building new things in dlc seems a bit of a waste to me.
Fallout 4 dlc is bad?
I'm not saying that! But I do think it's a bit of a disappointment, it's just mostly building new things and not getting new areas or meeting new people. Sure Far Harbor and later in Nuka World you get big new areas but imagine fun dlc packs that would support certain quests in the story or side quests from the game. For example they could've added a Silver Shroud dlc pack, once more the Silver Shroud is needed and you dress up as the Silver Shroud and you might meet other people dressed up as vigilantes, some of them could become your companion and you could pretty much stay in character for a part of the game. That would be fun! Maybe I'm just too spoiled from the previous Fallout games where the dlc actually meant new areas, new characters and new quests. But it seems we'll have to do with a lot of new building options, maybe some people like that but I bet there are also a lot of people who aren't really into building and pretty much skip this type of dlc and wait for the big dlc (Nuka World). I'm actually surprised that Bethesda increased the price of their season pass, because only two of the dlc packs are actually pretty big and offer you actual new things to do in the game (building new things doesn't really count as doing new things in the game to me). So to me it kind of feels like some people payed a lot of money for a lot of stuff they probably don't like and aren't interested in. I guess I'm lucky that I bought the season pass early.
What is the new dlc?
Contraptions Workshop is where you get new building options, you can now make mouse trap inspired contraptions to set certain things in motion. If you're wondering what that means then it might help if you remember that ball rolling down the slide in the mouse trap board game, it's pretty much something like that. Vault-Tec Workshop gives you more building options, but this time you can build your own vault and people can move into that vault. I think there are also a couple of missions tied to that, pretty much the same as with the Automatron dlc. When you build your own vault you can be the sadistic bastard that comes up with some type of experiment and expose the vault dwellers to that. But maybe you want to be nice and just create a safe place for people. Nuka World is the big story dlc that takes you to an amusement park that's under the control of raiders, what that exactly means is still unknown at this point but it gives you a new area to explore and hopefully some new interesting characters with whom you can talk and maybe you get a new companion as well. Hopefully the dlc will be fun to play, especially for people who aren't a big fan of building things in the game.
