How long can you go without playing games?

It seems silly, because food and water are more important, but there are people that sometimes wonder how long they can go without playing games. Depending who you ask that can vary from one day to a year or even more than that. But the real question would be, do your really want to stop playing games for that long? Why are games so important to some people? Because some people really enjoy playing games, it's a way for some people to relax and for others it's a way of spending time with their friends. This is especially useful for people who have friends that live far from where they live, so thanks to games they can still spend time together doing fun things. Then there are games that are just good at playing games, so giving that up would be not to make use of a talent you have. I don't know about you but to me that seems like a waste. There are also people that earn a living playing games, wether that's with youtube videos, streaming or maybe gaming journalism. ...

Sinful Sunday: Follow your instinct?

It seems natural and it actually is natural when you follow your instinct. In games this is something you should embrace but in real life you might want first think before you act. Usually real life doesn't move so fast as the world in a game so you should have time to think before you act. But that doesn't mean that your instinct is terrible, sometimes it's just smarter to think before you act even in a game. So should I follow my instinct or not? In a game it's not a bad idea to follow your instinct, because that's usually a good thing unless your instinct tells you to jump off a cliff. But I think you know what I mean, in case you don't know what I mean I'll give you some examples. In a first person shooter it's important that you listen carefully and use your eyes as best as you can because in a lot of first person shooters it's usually the person who spots the other person first that gets the kill. Instinct can be your ally here, because if ...

Youtube adventures part 8

When you start with your youtube channel you're often alone, unless you started with friends but I think a lot of people have a youtube channel which is full of videos made by the owner of the channel. This might work for you but even youtube gives you advice that you should work together with other youtubers, because this will give you a better chance to let your channel grow and it's also more interesting to add some diversity. But this does raise one big question! How do you get youtube friends? It's tricky to get youtube friends because some people just want you to subscribe to them and they'll often offer to subscribe to you, but I doubt that's what you're looking for. Then there are people that have a lot more subscribers than you and don't want to work with you, at least not if you only have a handful of subscribers. Which makes sense in a way but you can imagine that this doesn't really improve your chances to find youtube friends and it will...

Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6 on the Xbox One and Playstation 4?

Does this really surprise you? After seeing Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero getting a paintjob and being released on the current consoles it was only a matter of time that some of the other Resident Evil games would appear as well on the current consoles. But how do you feel about that? Do you even like Resident Evil 5 and 6? I know a lot of people love Resident Evil 4 but there aren't a lot of people that actually like Resident Evil 5 and 6, but maybe there are still people intersted in playing these games. Are people really interested in these games? I think there are people that are interested in these games, especially Resident Evil 4 but it wouldn't surprise me if there are people also interested in getting Resident Evil 5 and 6. I know that I am interested in getting these games, especially Resident Evil 5 because I really like the Chris and Wesker parts in that game and of course the mercenaries mode which is a lot of fun, especially if you play it with a friend...

Games that are fun even after the 10th time you finished it

Is that even possible? I mean games that you can finish several times and you're still interested in playing it again? I guess it helps if there are achievements or trophies you still need to get or if there are multiple endings but even the best games get boring if you played them several times, right? Wrong! Some games are never boring? I wouldn't say never and it's definitely not a good idea to try and finish the same game ten times in a row, it helps if you play different games between playthroughs in that game you like so much. Because if you would play the same game over and over again then I think you might make it unplayable for yourself, which is something that has happened to me a couple of times. Well I wouldn't say completely unplayable but it took me more than a year to get back into the game. A good example of that is Dragon Age: Origins, I played with each origin story character and finished the game with that character. That's six playthroughs in...

Playing games for achievements/trophies?

Sometimes I see people with a gamerscore that is pretty high, for example if you have more than 300.000 points then I say that's a lot! But how do people get on such a high score or get that many trophies? Maybe some people just play a lot of games but then there are also people that deliberately play easy games, games where you can get a lot of achievements or trophies without that much effort, just to boost their achievements and/or trophies total amount. Why do people play games for achievements/trophies? Because they want to get a high gamerscore fast and/or want to get a lot of trophies (preferbly platinum trophies). If you still don't understand then you probably don't care at all about achievements and trophies, which is probably a good thing because a lot of lives have been ruined because of those achievements and trophies! But for those that do care about achievements and trohies then it's about getting as many as you can and what easier way to get them tha...

The Walking Dead: Michonne (game)

At first I thought this would be another easy money game for the developers, but then I saw that it's from Telltale Games, in case you don't know what that means then I would suggest you check out the Walking Dead season 1 and 2 with Lee and Clementine, so perhaps this game might actually be good. What can you expect from this game? In this game you play as Michonne, you know the woman with the katana who is pretty cool but also a bit troubled. In this game you'll find out just how troubled she is because she's seeing things that aren't there and it messes with her, up to the point where she points a loaded gun to her head and it's up to you if you want to pull the trigger. Thanks to Telltale Games this isn't just another zombie killing game, you will have to make choices and those choices will have an effect on the story and what happens later in the game. It's one of the things you might expect of Telltale Games and they don't disappoint! From ...

Dlc can be better than the game itself?

I usually buy dlc because I like the game and want to keep having fun in it with some dlc, but sometimes it's the other way around. At those times I actually buy the game because I like the dlc, which probably sounds crazy to you but sometimes it makes sense! You buy a game because of dlc? Yep! Just look at Dying Light, which is a fun looking game but I never bought it until the Following dlc came out. Sure it helps when you get a good deal for both the game and the dlc but I probably would've bought it anyway because the Following dlc is pretty cool! Not only do you now have a huge open area with farms and even a forest, you also get a car to drive through zombies and race around the map. On top of that you also get a sweet crossbow that makes you feel like Daryl Dixon from the Walking Dead. Yeah that's pretty cool! So how could you not be interested in the Following dlc if you like zombie related games and/or movies/series? It was enough for me to finally buy the game...

Sinful Sunday: Making excuses why you suck at playing games

I think we've all done this at one point, making up lame excuses why we suck at a certain game. Wether it has something to do with the controller, the console or maybe there's someone that uses cheats but it seems to always be someone elses fault why you suck at a game. But why do we make up these excuses? Well let's find out! Why do you make up excuses? It probably has something to do with you being embarrassed, especially when there are other people with you then you don't want them to think that you suck so it's easy to come up with an excuse to explain why you suck. As long as it's not your fault, that's pretty much what it comes down to. Oh sure I could beat this game, but this stupid controller is just making it impossible to do it or the lag makes it impossible to get anything done in this game. Surprisingly this only happens when that person is holding the controller or playing the game, yeah that sounds like a lame excuse! Have you ever made u...

Things you hate in games you like

Finally the game you've been looking forward to playing is out, it's so much fun to play and everything seems to be great. But then an annoying part shows up and ruins everything! Do you recognize this? Well then you're playing a game you like with something in it you hate. You might think this doesn't happen a lot but it happens more times then it should! Why do developers put crap in a good game? I don't think they deliberately put something bad in a game, they probably thought it would be fun or interesting to try something else or put something in the game that would challenge players a bit so people wouldn't breeze through the game just like that. Unfortunately that often leads to annoying situations and lot of frustration, gee thanks developers! But it's not easy being a developer, I'm not even talking about making the game, because if you make the game to easy people will be a bunch of whining assholes but when you make it too tough then peopl...

Youtube adventures part 7

When you've been uploading videos for quite some time, let's say more than a year, then you've probably looked back and couldn't help but think about all those videos you made and uploaded and how people feel about them and how you feel about them. It's easy to say that you like it or that you don't like it but in the end you can't help but wonder one thing. Is it worth it? Spending a lot of time on making and uploading videos is time consuming and that doesn't really motivate you to continue, especially when you don't get a lot of views on your videos. Moments like that can be deadly for a youtuber, because you're wondering if you should continue with making videos and uploading them or just quit. It's easy to say that you'll just keep going but is that really the smartest thing to do? If you feel like you're wasting time and don't have fun in making and uploading videos anymore then you might want to seriously consider to ...

Do you buy game merchandise?

When you pre-order a game or sometimes if you buy a game you get some free stuff with it, often this is game merchandise and fun to get. But have you ever bought game merchandise or is this something you don't want to waste money on? Game merchandise is cool? Well that's an opinion, because some might think it's cool while others think it's lame. But if it would be for free then it wouldn't surprise me that more people would have game merchandise because if people would have to be honest then it's pretty cool. But not everything is interesting for everyone, for example swinging a lightsaber (the glow stick in the dark that makes the lightsaber noises) is probably cool for kids but as an adult you look absolutely ridiculous. Maybe you have no issues with that and you do it anyway, but the fact is that certain things are probably more aimed at a certain age group. One of the coolest merchandise items are probably statues or posters of your favourite characters...

Fallout 4 dlc details

Fallout 4 is a great game, my favourite of 2015, but does that mean that the dlc for this game will also be amazing? Looking at Bethesda's dlc packs for previous Fallout games and also Elder Scrolls games I think it's safe to assume that they know what they're doing! But what can you expect? Here is some information about the first three dlc packs and some new info on the season pass. Automatron. In the Automatron dlc pack Robots are released on the wasteland and it's your job to hunt them down. The man (or woman, maybe even another machine?) called the Mechanist is behind this and it's up to you to stop him (or her, maybe even it?). One of the new robot types is the robo brain, yes a brain in a robot...does that come familiar to you? It wouldn't surprise me if it did. Wasteland Workshop. In the Wasteland Workshop dlc pack you can catch all creatures in the wasteland, including raiders and tame them or let them fight eachother in an arena! This g...

Are you addicted to playing games?

You're probably thinking that this isn't a serious question but I'm really curious if you would notice if you're addicted to playing games. Even if you would play games every day and play them for ten or more hours, then it wouldn't surprise me that some people don't see the problem with that. Not that it's such a bad thing, but if you have to go to school and/or work then that doesn't really seem to go well together... Some people don't know that they're addicted to playing games? There's also a chance that some people just don't care or they think they've got things under control, but if every day exists out of you playing games for a lot of hours then you might be addicted and you don't even realize that! This isn't a terrible addiction but I can't say that it's a healthy addiction either, maybe some people learn to mix their hobby with doing other things but often a lot of gaming addicts spend all day in the ho...

When the hype isn't real

Some games get announced with a lot of hype, people go crazy and almost scream that this is the best game ever. But what remains of that when you actually play that game? More often than not a game isn't as great as some people said, maybe not even as good as you would hope or thought it would be. Now that sucks, to say the least... Never believe the hype? That's smart, because it's important that you always make your own decisions and value your own opinion instead of just blindly following the opinion of someone else. I'm not saying that the opinions of others don't matter, but I would recommend to think before you do something and taking some random opinion as a fact is foolish! Even if the whole world would be excited about a game then I would still recommend that you make up your own mind about that game, because just buying it because other people think it's great is a bad move. Oh the game can be fun, but it could be terrible as well. Just because one...

Sinful Sunday: Secret crush on a fictional character

It's Valentines Day and that means idiots...I mean some people do something nice for someone they care about, which is actually a good thing. But since this is Sinful Sunday I don't talk about the nice things, I'm talking about something you might not want that special someone in your life to know! That's right I'm talking about your attraction towards a fictional character from a game, it might seem silly to some but I know that there are people out there that have experience with this! How can you be attracted to a fictional character? Well it's not that strange because if the character looks good, sounds good and makes you feel good then why wouldn't you be attracted to that? Of course there's a part in your brain that tries to explain with logic why it wouldn't work, but you do realize that logic doesn't stand a chance against romantic feelings? What's really interesting is that some people are actually attracted to some old fictional...

Games you expect to see every year

Some game series have a game for you every year, for example CoD and Assassin's Creed are known for that and usually don't disappoint (depends who you ask though). But is it really a good thing that you get a game every year or is it better to work a bit longer on a game? Games that come out every year aren't good? It's easy to say that but when I look at game series like CoD and Assassin's Creed then I can say that's not entirely true. Sure some CoD games aren't good or at least not as much fun as I would like them to be, but does that automaticly make them bad? For example CoD Ghosts was a bit different, I wasn't super exciting about everything but I did like that Infinity Ward introduced female soldiers in multiplayer and a new mode called Extinction. Maybe not everyone likes that but it was fun to play. Female soldiers are now standard in every CoD multiplayer game since, so they definitely started with something good there! But CoD Advanced Warf...

Crossover games

This is like a fantasy you had as a kid and somehow it became real, seeing one of your favourite characters from a game show up in another game. I must admit that for some time I thought that this is just wishful thinking, but then there are games that bring your favourite characters into other games or sometimes they even bring characters that died in a game back to life (in a way). Maybe not everyone is into crossover games but I'm glad that they exist! What's so great about crossover games? Let me explain with an example, Link is one of my favourite characters in a game and you would normally only see him in the Legend of Zelda games, which is cool but that kind of limits his appearance in games. But with him showing up in Super Smash Brothers and now also in Super Mario Kart it gives fans of Link more chances to play as him and I think that's a good think. But doesn't that kind of destroy the image of Link? Perhaps, I mean it's difficult to imagine Link in a...

Dlc announced before the game even launches?

This seems to be happening more and more, dlc is being announced for a game before the game even launches. This really gives me the feeling that developers are trying to squeeze out some more money out of gamers, because if this is announced before the game is being launched then you could just put that in the game itself. I mean that makes sense to me, but then again I'm not a greedy asshole... Why are developers announcing dlc before a game launches? There are several reasons, but I think the main reason is to convince you to buy the game because if you buy the game you could get this dlc as well if you buy the season pass or just buy it separately. This does bring up the second reason why developers announce dlc before a game launches, it's because they want you to buy the season pass and already showing what you get with the season pass is a good way to sell a season pass. Eventhough some games don't need to do that, for example Fallout 4 hasn't shown any dlc bu...

Unravel, a new type of puzzle game

I like games where I have to use my brains, sure it's nice when in some games you can just go in kill everyone and everything mode but there's definitely a charm to games where you do need to think before you act. Unravel is one of those games and it's quite a unique one as well. What is Unravel? In Unravel you play as Yarny, a creature made out of a thread of yarn (I guess the name gave it away), that travels through the world using the yarn itself (from his body) to get from one place to another. This is an interesting way of traveling that actually made me curious about this game when I first saw it in 2015. You could call this game a puzzle platformer, which might not be interesting for everyone but it's more interesting then you might think. As you progress through a level Yarny will unravel more, so the trick is to get to the end of the level before there's nothing left of you. But you will find pieces of yarn to fix yourself so it's not like mistakes ...

Boyfriend/girlfriend or computer/console?

When you love to play games then it's safe to assume that you spend a lot of time playing games, normally there's nothing wrong with that but if you have a boyfriend or girlfriend who isn't a big fan of playing games then it might be difficult to explain your behaviour. Of course it doesn't have to be a problem in every relationship but if you spend more time playing games than on your boyfriend or girlfriend then you can imagine that he or she isn't going to be happy with that. It might just cause some friction but it could also mean that he or she will want you to choose, it's either him/her or your computer/console. Yikes! Do some people consider computers/consoles as competition? It's possible, for example if you spend a lot more time on your computer/console than spending time with your boyfriend or girlfriend then it's not a surprise if he or she isn't going to be happy with that. It's great if you can combine your hobby with that speci...

Why is there hardly any love for FF VIII?

Whenever people talk about their favourite Final Fantasy game or pick favourite characters/moments from Final Fantasy games I noticed that most times they leave out Final Fantasy VIII. Even with favourite themes, especially opening themes they sometimes leave FF VIII out and personally I don't understand that because FF VIII has one of the best opening themes I've ever seen! But then again I'm talking about opinions, so maybe a lot of people just don't like Final Fantasy VIII that much... What's wrong with Final Fantasy VIII? If I have to be honest then I'll admit that the game isn't perfect, I can definitely see that the game isn't the best game ever, but it does leave a lasting impression on the player and has some interesting characters and definitely a beautiful soundtrack. The story isn't great either, I mean you start good on disc one but then later on disc three I must admit that I kind of lose interest for a moment because it feels like y...

Sinful Sunday: Sharing your opinion online

I don't know if there ever was a true civilized way of people communicating with eachother, sharing opinions and talking about certain things without people being douchebags towards eachother, but I do know that these days there isn't much civilized behaviour online. If someone gives his or her opinion online, especially on certain sites, then you can bet your life on it that there will be someone that has to troll that person or someone else that has to disagree but then in such a way that makes it impossible to actually have a civilized discussion with that person. What happened? Or were we always such utter complete assholes towards eachother? What do you mean with a civilized discussion? I mean that you can talk with someone else and not have to insult that person and respect his or her opinion and the other also respects your opinion. Even when you both clearly disagree with eachother then you still have the decency to respect the opinion of the other person, because i...

Games are getting worse over time?

Yesterday I suddenly noticed something, it's kind of silly that I didn't notice it before but now that I have it really makes me wonder. Are games getting worse over time? Let me explain what happened, I returned to Assassin's Creed Syndicate and wanted to unlock some more achievements but then the game froze twice in one evening. That's bad but what's really weird is that this never happened when I first played the game in October. So has the game gotten worse after several months or was it always this bad and I just noticed it? Everything gets worse over time? When you look at computers or other hardware then that makes sense, with software it's sometimes a bit more difficult to realize that. I mean when you buy the game it's good, but then several months later it's bad? What happened to the software in the meantime? I know that games often get updates or patches but that would mean that an update or a patch messed up the game somehow. That's w...

Youtube adventures part 6

There comes a time where you have to decide if you want to continue with something or if you want to quit, no I'm not talking about the channel itself but some videos you made. For example you have a weekly video on your channel and you really like making it, should you continue with that when hardly anyone watches those videos? I think the logic answer would be to quit, but in truth it's not logic that should motivate you to make videos and then upload them. It's you having fun and doing something you like. So it makes sense you continue with your videos, even if most people don't like it or just don't watch it then at least you can say that you like it and that you're having fun with it! Quit or continue? I've tried many things over the years with my youtube channel, I had weekly videos and I made a playthrough series about certain games. Usually they start with several viewers but then a couple of weeks in there is less and less interest in those vid...

The opening theme in a game

Have you ever noticed how an opening theme in a game can persuade you to play the game? This might seem weird or unbelievable to you but just think about it. Was there never a moment when you heard the opening theme in a game and it made you curious about the game or it moved you and you wanted to hear more? Music in games can have a powerful effect on players, perhaps even more than you think! Why is an opening theme so important? It's usually, especially in the time before youtube and most other information points on the internet, the first thing you hear in a game. So this will have a huge impact on you and it might even determine if you want to continue playing the game or not. Trust me when you hear a shitty opening theme in a game then that doesn't really motivate you to play further, but if the opening theme is amazing then you can't wait to play more! Sometimes the opening theme, or in some cases the title screen theme, is so good that you just listen to that ...

Final Fantasy XV has an interesting battle system!

In the old Final Fantasy games you knew exactly what to expect from the battle system, your characters would be on one side of the screen and the enemies would be on the other side of the screen and then you would take turns attacking eachother. Well things are a lot different now in Final Fantasy XV! There's a new battle system? You could say that, well maybe it comes a bit familiar because we had already more freedom in the battle system in the last couple of Final Fantasy games but now it seems we've entered a new dimension when it comes to battle systems! You attack as you normally would attack in a hack and slash type of game, but that would be too easy to call it hack and slash. You carry several different weapons with you and you can switch to these weapons in a heartbeat. This allows you to fight with different styles and some weapons are more effective in certain situations. Something that really surprised me is that stealth is also a thing in this game. In a missi...

Resident Evil Umbrella Corps

Now this is a game I didn't see coming, not that it's such a good kept secret but more the fact that another Resident Evil spin off game was absolutely crap. Do you remember that game? Well I won't hold it against you if you couldn't remember it. The other game is called Operation Raccoon City, I have to admit that at first it looked promising but after playing it I realized that this game isn't good (I'm being mild here). So what can you expect from Umbrella Corps? Hopefully something better than Operation Raccoon City! What is Umbrella Corps actually? The most interesting part about this game, as far as I can see, is that it's a first person shooter. In Resident Evil games that hasn't really worked out so well for that type of gameplay but maybe Umbrella Corps can change that. It's a competitive online first person shooter, so maybe a bit of CoD but also with zombies. It's an interesting idea but I think when people hear about a new Residen...

Friday the 13th the game

When I first heard about this game I thought it would be some lame attempt to make some quick money with just dropping a popular title, but I was wrong because this game actually looks quite interesting! What's really interesting is that it's not just you playing as Jason, you can also play as one of the teenagers that have to run for their lives! Teenagers vs Jason? That's kind of the idea, because in this game you play as Jason or as one of seven teenagers that realize that they're in a lot of trouble! You'll find some typical stereotypes in this game, for example the preppy guy, the athletic girl, the nerdy guy and so on. Each character has his or her own speciality which should help you escape or at least try to survive for a long time. As Jason it's quite simple what you have to do, kill everyone! You can't kill Jason? That's right, just like in the movies you can't really kill Jason but you can try to escape. This might seem a bit weird...
