Virtual Reality is the future of gaming?

If you have to believe the ´old´ movies then that´s probably true, if you have to believe some people on the internet then it´s true but what about you? Do you think virtual reality is the future of gaming? Instead of pressing buttons on your controller or keyboard you do everything with your mind, which seems cool but is that safe? Perhaps it´s a good idea to take a closer look to virtual reality gaming.

Don´t fix something that isn´t broken?

I´m actually surprised how some people just want things to keep going forward in such a way that we hardly have one thing and we already need the other. Of course the controller and keyboard have been around for quite some time but do we really need to replace that? Just look at the Kinect, I think that alone already shows that people aren´t ready to move on and are quite happy with what they have now. I don´t want to jump in front of my tv to play games, I want to sit on the couch after a long day of school and/or work and relax. I don´t see how the Kinect or virtual reality fits into that picture and I´m pretty certain that I´m not the only one that feels that way.

Is virtual reality dangerous?

I guess there is always a danger but I doubt that anyone would realize a virtual reality headset when it´s not safe. Of course there are risks and I bet that everyone that offers virtual reality headsets will add the risks and warnings on a piece of paper, which probably means that virtual reality isn´t for everyone and also something you can´t do for a long time. Even hardcore gamers that spend more than ten hours on gaming will have to slow down, because ten hours with a virtual reality headset seems risky. Perhaps that´s also one of the reasons why not everyone is excited about virtual reality, it´s just not the way people want it to be. Right now it feels more like a gadget than a serious competitor for a way of playing games.

Do we really want virtual reality?

I must admit that I´m curious about it, but I´m not in a hurry and if that means that I have to play with my controller for another ten or twenty years then that´s fine with me. What´s important to me that it´s done right, don´t put some half baked gadget on the market that´s fun for some giggles but doesn´t really offer more than that. Another thing is that virtual reality makes you look like an idiot, because if you stand there waving your arms around with the virtual reality headset on you do kind of look ridiculous. Which is ok if you´re on your own but a bit silly if other people can see you. I don´t know if we´re all ready for virtual reality, at this point it still sounds like something for the future and not the present. At least not a type of virtual reality that is a solid way of playing games and that actually offers an experience and not just some tricks. Virtual reality sounds and looks cool in some movies but in reality I don´t think we´re quite there yet.
