Looking back at.....Monopoly!

I think almost everyone that plays games or has played games knows about this game, it´s a board game that can go on for a long time! Eventhough it can keep you and your family and/or friends busy for quite some time it´s still a lot of fun, especially when you know what you´re doing and of course get lucky. In this digital time it probably doesn´t surprise you that Monopoly is also playable on your PC and console, which means you can play with people all over the world if you want to or just play against family and friends online. But is this old game still fun to play or is it time for something new?

Simple fun is good fun!

If you play Monopoly for the first time it might look a bit confusing with all the houses and hotel stuff, but in truth it´s actually pretty simple. Depending in which country or what version you play you buy either streets or towns and then try to bankrupt the other players. You get cash every time you pass the start point on the board and there are cards that can get you some extra cash or it can cost you extra cash. But you also get money if people land on your property, things you bought, and if you land on free parking. The more money you have the more you can buy and invest in your property. A skilled player knows what he or she needs and will try to complete a set (2 or 3 places on the board of the same colour) as fast as possible!

You´re never too old to play Monopoly.

I played Monopoly when I was just a little kid and I still play it because it´s fun! What´s interesting about Monopoly is that it´s not all about skill, you definitely also need luck on your side because if you get bad rolls with the dice and bad cards then you´re in trouble, all the planning or strategy you bring to the table will most likely not help you in such a situation. But there are more ways to win, for example you can trade with other people to complete a set or to make the life of another player miserable. Especially when one player is winning then it might be smart to team up against this person, because if you let someone get big on the board then it might be difficult to win at that point!

Monopoly isn´t old fashioned.

With digital and more modern versions of the Monopoly board game it´s silly to say that it´s old fashioned, because the game keeps changing into a more modern version and that keeps the game fresh and interesting. Besides don´t you want to screw your friends over and take their property? I like board games and I´m happy that these board games appear more and more in digital form, but I must admit that for me nothing beats the board game from the box and just play that with friends around the table.
