Gaming requires skill and/or luck?

Maybe you´ve never experienced it before but sometimes there are moments in a game where you just make it or things work just in your favour, is that skill or is that luck? I guess that depends on the person that´s playing, because some people don´t believe in luck and only in their skill. But is that really the truth? Does skill or luck play a big role when you play games? Let´s find out...

Skill isn´t for everyone?

It can be frustrating, you practice for hours or maybe even days and there are still people that beat you in online multiplayer. Sometimes there are just people out there that have more skill or use some tricks to beat you, but it could also be luck. I guess there are multiple reasons why someone beats you, the important thing is that you don´t let it bring you down. Sure some people have a lot of skill, when you don´t have that much skill then it´s more difficult for you to beat that person. But it´s not impossible! My advice is that you should play for fun and not to win, because playing for the win usually brings out a lot of frustration and makes even fun games a bit less fun when things aren´t going your way. Skill isn´t for everyone, but you can learn and practice usually does make you a bit better. The important thing is that you have fun, because if you have no fun playing a game then you really have to ask yourself why you´re still playing that game!

Luck doesn´t exist?

I´ve heard this several times from people that think they´re hot shit, then you´ll usually hear things like they don´t need luck or luck is for noobs. People who talk like that are full of shit, everyone gets lucky every now and then. Unfortunately some people have more luck than others, which isn´t really fair but it´s not really an exact science! When I make a beautiful headshot with my sniper rifle then I know that this is at least 50% luck because I´m not a good sniper and I´m ok with that, because who cares how you make it I´m at least glad that I made the shot! The nice thing about luck is that you can´t learn it, you either have it or you don´t. Of course you can push something more into your favour, especially when you play against other players. But don´t be blinded by arrogance because that´s a good way to get yourself in a mess!

Skill and luck are both important?

I´d say more people favour skill and I get that, but don´t forget about luck. It can be subtle and small, but even the slightest bit of luck can give you a good feeling. Why would you ruin this feeling by calling it skill? There´s no shame in getting lucky, eventhough some people would call half the times they get hit by another player a lucky shot. It´s not easy to accept that sometimes other people are better players, but that doesn´t automaticly make you a bad player. Some people just have more skill and there is no shame in that, especially when they spend a lot of hours on that game in a week. We all have our own way of playing and it doesn´t all have to be outstanding. Wether you believe in skill or luck it doesn´t matter as long as you´re having a good time playing the games you like to play!
