Real life cosplay and in game cosplay
I like cosplay, I´m not that big into it myself but I find it cool to see some people put some serious effort in trying to look the part they´re aiming for. Some actually go pretty far with that, where others just see it as another hobby. Whatever you motivation is this is something a lot of people like to do and probably even more people like to see. But what about cosplay in games?
It might suprise you but some gamers like to dress up their main character as a character from another game or from a movie. I´d say almost every game that lets you create and customize your own character gives you a chance to cosplay in a game. Of course certain mods will make it a lot easier but you don´t always need those to get something done! The Saints Row games give you a lot of choices with creating a character, so don´t be suprised to see some familiar characters in those games.
But why do people cosplay in games? Probably for the same reason why they do it in real life, because it´s fun! But it´s probably easier in a game than in real life, because if you want to get into detail then real life usually sucks when you want to make a fantasy character come to life. Still that doesn´t make it easy to cosplay in a game, I´d say that still takes some creativity to pull that off. It´s nice to dress up as your favourite character, for me that is Seifer from Final Fantasy VIII. I used to dress up as him in Second Life, yes that´s not really a game but I guess it comes close to that. It´s a great way to meet other people who have a similar interest as you, because people that recognize your look and outfit will often want to talk to you and that usually means that you have something to talk about. Even people that don´t recognize you will sometimes be curious about the outfit, so I´d say it should get you into some conversations and maybe you´ll make some friends that way too!
So in game cosplay better than real life cosplay? No I wouldn´t say that, it´s easier but not better. Because as much fun you might have in a game, it´s more fun to meet people in real life at events. I know we live in a modern age with technology that allows us to talk with eachother from across the world, but I don´t think that beats real contact with people. Maybe I´m just old fashioned but I think it´s better to get out and meet some cool people, especially when they have the same interest as you! But even if you don´t like the same things, I think you still have enough to talk about. Don´t worry if you´re not that creative, not every costume has to be complex. I´d say the most important part is that you´re having fun!
